Root Not able to install apps thru LG PC Suite IV(Market is not an option)

Hi evryone !!

I'm new on smartphones and I've just bougth a LG GT540 for my wife as birthday present.
I'm trying to configure it before give it to her. Succesfuly upgraded to Andriod 2.1 thru LG PC Suite IV and now I want to install some other apps thru it, I can't do it thru Market becuase there are no Wi Fi access at work and I can't do it at home, there will be no surprise.
It's my understanding that this must be done thru File>Import but this option is disbled besides I'm able to synch contacts and such.
Also I'm not able to access Phone as a Pen drive in Windows Explorer becuase appears but asked me to insert a disk.

Hope I can solve this ASAP.

Under settings look for the option to use only as Mass storage.

I've already tried set as Mass Storage only but it didn't work. Thanks !!
It seems that there are different versions of GT540, mine is GT540R, standard one is GT540G. GT540R User manual states that does not support Java Application, maybe this could the reason why Import option is unavailable. Related to SD access on my PC, I founded out that pulling down top bar I have chance to activate SD card, now I can have access to it, bad thing is that I have to do that everytime that I connect my phone. Suggestions?
Now that I have access to my SD on my PC. How can I install apps?

The only other option is to purchase an SD card adaptor. Transfer the files over and then you can access them via root explorer or other program.
