Not Digging hangouts? Other SMS apps

So having hangouts take on the role of SMS is nifty and all, but I didn't use hangouts at all before the nexus 5, so I really would prefer getting rid of it.

So far I'm using 8SMS and really digging it. If any of you have used cyanogenmod in the past you know exactly what to expect. Only bug right now is MMS doesn't auto retrieve yet, but itll notify you when you get one and you just have to press a download button.

what exactly don't you like about Hang outs? it works exactly like any other messenger.. I personally love it, i love how MMS pictures come in huge in the thread and easy to see right away, and the ability to just swipe side by side to view every previous picture from that text thread as a slide show with out needing to scroll up and through the old texts.

Also you can log out of hangouts so it works only as SMS, (thats what i did)

I did not realize that. Thanks! Now that I'm used to hangouts, I can't decide if I want to stay logged in or not. Had I known this off the bat, I would have logged out. Now I'm used to it. Glad to have the information though so that I have the choice.
 
I logged out off the bat, but it would re-log in each time I opened it. I dont like having the google + contacts in there, and it is cumbersome when trying to start a new SMS.

I also missed the quick reply pop up from custom ROMS, and 8SMS has it, as well as the ability to reply from status bar.
 
I'm stuck using Google Voice since I use that as my main number and CM isn't out with Voice+ yet for Nexus 5

Ah! I love quick reply... I was on PAC rom forever before my upgrade. Got spoiled by the copious amounts of features. As much as I love my N5, it's been quite the adjustment.

Maybe it's time I attempt my first port. :D I wish, but don't have the time lately. :(
 
I've had a couple of charges from O2 for media messages. I never send pictures by text.

It has been suggested that long texts may be treated by the N5 or Hangouts as MMS and therefore charged appropriately by the provider. Has anyone else seen this?
 
Noticed with Hangouts you can't send an SMS to multiple recipients. I hope they fix that. Currently it converts it MMS.

Im really liking hangouts. Useful to bring things into one app. If it could somehow sync WhatsApp chats as well that would be the ultimate, though I doubt thats possible.

The facetime feature is dead easy to do as well and works well.

Thats the default behavior. Multiple recipients or long messages are changed to MMS.

8SMS has an option to not do that.

My texts keep sending twice

How do you log out of hangouts.
