Not Enjoying G3's Display because Of Low Contrast?

Been hearing a lot of people whining that the contrast isnt the same as lg g2 or gs5, theres a feature in the settings that can change this.

Go to setting -accessibility-color adjustment
and adjust the contrast to ur liking.
there now u can enjoy ur colors :)

not sure if some of u had the g2 but that also had the feature.

now stop whining.:p:p

also its kinda odd major reviewers hasnt included that.
 
I have the same worry. I played with the G3 side by side with my Note 2 in a well lit Best Buy yesterday. They compared pretty well, but I'm pretty sure when and if I get one home it will be a different story in lower light places.

I've been using Samsung AMOLED screens for a few years now, so I'm used to the great contrast, viewing angles, and colors they have. We'll have to see if I can get used to the LCD screen, which won't look nearly as good in lower light.
 
You actually get used to it, but if compared to a high contrast device again side by side, you are back to square one with view perception. Certain content has a sharpness issue, but I did not notice it much yet. Frankly I would buy the device if it had an old fashioned 1080p display to use less resources.

Waiting now for the Note 4, or Prime Plus..... or maybe go cheap and buy a Note 3 for half the price of a Note 4..... My trusty S4 with 4500 mah battery will have to do for now.

Agreed. The QHDness of the display is a non factor for me, other than the fact that it must impact battery life and frame rates. I'd trade away these extreme resolution gimmicks (which I can't see anyway) for a better performing display in a heartbeat.
 
Couple points. First, that contrast trick from streetkillin really does work, surprisingly well. So if you like inky black backgrounds, that's nice to know.

This screen doesn't lack in contrast in all but the lowest light scenarios, like at night in a car, or a movie theater. Even then, you probably wouldn't notice much unless directly next to an amoled, and then you would clearly notice it.

I have both, and I don't think it's a deal breaker by any stretch, unless you are in VERY low light situations a lot.

On the resolution............it's not entirely a gimmick. The difference is hard to see for sure, but it is there. It's weird, but your eyes get a bit unconsciously used to it, and then going back to a 1080 sometimes doesn't look as good. It's not the major leap we all hoped for, but it's not nothing either.
 
To those saying the screen using battery life , the battery life is t that bad actually its right there with the g2 maybe a little under but its not bad. It gets me through my day until i get home.

Also frame rate isnt an issue nothing manor there is noticeable lag but its not caused by the screen its caused by lgs os. Like the g2 before updates it was a bit laggy.

Actually the whites are spot on in most cases. Tbh the qhd displays picks up different shades whites. What we are use to seeing on our 1080s are a light blueish tint of white. Witch isnt a true white color. Look at ur screen full brightness look at a white color u will see a blueish tint.

i think they are just fan boys of samsung or iphone. and dont want to show the helpful features. or even talk about the logic of the screen. they say oh the white dont look white.

have u looked at ur gs5 ur white isnt even white its a blueish white.

the lg g3 shows more accurate white than that.
 
The G3 display is dimmer and no way around that. Reviews point it out and it is part of the power and heat mitigation design of the LG software for it. It is a balancing act of using technology designed for 1080p power efficiency into something about twice as high in pixels. Simple electronics balancing the panel attributes with reducing power draw.

Just enjoy your devices :) The dimness is only noticed if you compare to other devices like the Note 3, S4, S5 or G2 as example. One thing I do notice though is where movies look great on the S4 and Note 3, the G3 reminds me of a mini laptop display due to the lower contrast (Good for a laptop though).

There are several thorough reviews of the display using actual measurements, so not a case of people trolling since supported by this. In spite of the documented display caveats, I still give the device an 8/10, since everything else is so good. The display though IMO hurts rather than helps the device overall. Not for sales though, since ironically the main selling point LG is pushing- as it should be.
 
I have to respectfully disagree with rush here. I don't think the screen is inheritantly dimmer. When it gets hot and throttles, probably, but mine hasn't done that yet. There are several reviews of the us model that put brightness output at s5 and m8 levels, and I can say owing one, brightness at 100% is extremely bright.

Korean versions maybe not, and certainly auto brightness is very aggressive, but no more so than my s4.

Contrast will be lower than amoled, especially in a dark setting, but I find the display excellent.
 
I am referring more in the relation of brightness and contrast together. As you push brightness up, the contrast goes down. Anandtech noted this appeared to be part of the power management.

That said, comparing the Note 3 with the G3 in Verizon, IMO the Note 3 display is brighter and FAR better contrast. Much better display, but again JMO.
 
Fair point, the contrast is actually pretty good when on auto, but does lose blackness when blasting 100% off auto.

Nothing compares to the contrast of those AMOLED screens. If that's your thing, only they can scratch that itch. Compared to other LCD screens, I think this one hangs with the best of them, even if it doesn't win every category.

Which I prefer. My razr maxx hd had warm white that I hated.
 
stopped by bb today and compared my G3 screen to samsungs.

lol, all I can say.

unless my eyes are no good, G3 screen is so much better.

4 me at least.

Resolution gimmicks? So the front speakers of the One are gimmicky, and stylus of the Notes, etc. Just because it's the standout feature and different from other androids doesn't make it gimmicky... that's the point of androids, to be built differently.

I find it amusing that, it appears to me anyway, that the people complaining about one thing or another with the g3 don't own it. They're either basing this off reviews or store demos. Those of us that actually own the g3 like them and realize most of the reviews were based on Korean models.
 
I compared the Galaxy S5 and LG G3 displays side-by-side prior to deciding what phone upgrade to go for. Note that this was with a UK (International) model of the G3 which does seem to address a lot of the negative display judgments made against the Korean G3 variant.

Brightness and screen reflectivity seemed to be equal - I couldn't say that one was superior to the other. But... the Samsung did have, without doubt, more eye-popping colour. In part this was because LG seems to have gone for a muted colour scheme whilst Samsung has gone for something very bold and saturated. But, when browsing online and looking at images, it seemed clear to me that the G3 was the most natural, and by quite some distance.

I'm not sure that accuracy is as important to most people as something eye-catching but, for me, having tried the two devices together, the G3's display went from being the subject of criticism and of questionable benefit to being a strong selling point.

Samsung is known for over contrasting there colors making them pop out. On there super amoled screens. Colors arnt like that in all reality. People think since a screen has super high contrast and looks clear then that must mean its good. Actually no its not. That can also hurt ur eyes.
 
AMOLED is rated highly in reviews and by users and like the G3, the newer Samsung devices have display settings, so can adjust the POP down :) Samung has a good option called "adaptive" that adjusts for content. The option eliminates the pop for pics/images, plus the tech has far better contrast and a little better battery life for most content (unless lots and lots of whites).


Added: That said, the G3 would have been my first LCD phone since the G1- if it were 1080p :)

no offense, but you do spend the tremendous amount of time posting on the forum for the phone you do not like and promoting samsungs.

I would never go to the Samsung boards to tell ppl how great my LG G3 is compared to their mediocre phones.

G3 screen can be easily switched to 1080p, btw.

How can it be changed? I'm loving the phone as is, but that's an interesting option if necessary.
