Not enough audio volume

Eris with 2.1

I purchased Audio Manager, but even when maxed out there's less volume than on other cellphones we have. This is true with all audio functions, including Bluetooth.

Is there another way, or a better tool, that will improve audio volume.

Thanks!

I think there is an app that boosts audio volume. I think you need root though. I just wouldn't expect outstanding results since the Eris doesn't have a very loud speaker plain and simple.

And when you do that, you risk blowing the speaker.

Perhaps invest in some headphones or a bluetooth speaker?

I can see with wired headset but with a Bluetooth headset it shouldn't matter, since the phone itself isn't powering the headset.

The BT headset operates on a carrier freq near 2.4GHz, changing the exact freq about 1600 times per second (spread spectrum, freq hopping). Impressed upon that carrier is the audio signal, digitized. If the audio is to go to the speaker or a headset, it's converted to analog and amplified.

It's that digitized audio signal that is in common with everything. At any given moment there is an amplitude, and over time there's an average amplitude.

On my unit, the average amplitude of the digitized signal is too low - hence the problem in digital and analog.

I just found a nifty little inline amplifier (one AAA cell) for use with headphones or an external speaker. Works fine, low distortion, clear -- so the problem isn't all me.

When I bought the AUDIO MANAGER app, I expected it to provide the boost I need, but even at max the output is insufficient.

I have several BT headsets and wired earbuds, but it's the phone that is too low in volume output.

I do agree.
I connect my Eris to my car audio system. My standard ipod was plenty loud at 12volume, but with the Eris I have to crack it up to 17 to get the same results (max is around 25).

The new update states improved audio as one of the fixes, so maybe that has something to do with this issue.

I actually turn down my phone when I'm in the car. I find that if I turn it up too loud, it starts distorting the sound in my Escort. Probably overpowering the cassette heads. In our Tahoe its even more apparent, and actually crackles and clips the sound if its too loud. It must have something to do with Delco radios that Chevy's use, because my friend's Astro does the same thing.

Turn down the phone volume to 3/4 the way, and just use the car volume control, and works fine. ;)

I found this to be a big problem as well. It is virtually impossible to hear a caller with any ambient noise. I thought it was just my hearing degrading as i get older.....

It is my biggest frustration with the Eris so far.

In the car (an open roadster) the problem is solved. I use the Jabra speakerphone with an FM connection to the car's FM radio, which allows me to crank it ON. Works great, but doesn't fix the situation when I'm walking, etc.

Generally, I just put the Eris speakerphone up near my ear.
