Help 'Not enough memory. Delete some items.'

cjdavies

Lurker
I tried to use my camera and had the following message: "Not enough memory. Delete some items".

When I access my photo gallery it does not open and comes up with the same message.

I have tried the following no success:-
- Deleted some applications
- cleared the data on the gallery app.
- cleared the Internet Explorer cache/cookies/history
- deleted all text messages and call log
- switched phone off and back on after doing above

I have the same problem with memory but can't understand why I have to delete the USB storage on an almost daily basis.

It just seems to me to be a very bad way to use the memory on this phone?

@richard49
No you shouldn't do that on a daily basis.
But I wonder if you have too many apps installed on your phone?
Having 5 or10 games installed in your phone can also be a problem...
But hey, is your phone and you do whatever you want to do with it.

On my phone I delete apps that I don't use and reinstall them again if I need them.
I don't use the device to play video games with it.
And I save all my photos and videos on the external sd card.

But than and again different people use their device's in different ways and that is the beauty of this world.

I Hope you can find a solution for your problem eventually,
And good luck.

I've been having the same issue with no success after trying numerous fixes.
To me it appeared an app issue and not a memory problem at all. Installed a new camera app instead of the default one. I used camera mx you choose your own. And no more memory issue. Also works if you just install another viewer but the camera app i installed has its of manager.

i think I'm having the same problem. There's a hidden file in the DCIM/thumbnails folder that is huge. it takes my memory card down to 0mb remaining and if I delete it, it regenerates when I open the camera app next.

The camera opens and takes ages for the buttons to appear on screen. I think that is because it's rebuilding the massive thumbnail file. If you copy the name of the big file, then delete it and make a new folder with the exact same name as the big file, it stops it regenerating. Although sometimes a new one appears, so you have to do the same thing again.

It's quite annoying and has only started happening in the last couple of months. I found some other info online but the above solution seems to be the only way around it.

How do you get to see hidden files? On my computer I can never see where all my memeoy has gone on the phone memory (and I'd like to know)

Cheers

I use ES File Explorer, I can highly recommend it. All you do is go to settings > display settings and tthen tick 'show hidden files'.

Then if you look in DCIM/.thumbnails (hidden files have a . before the filename) you should find one or more very large files. Then do what I said above. Mine are called .thumbdata3--1967290229 and something similar with another number at the end. And make sure you create a folder using the filename, not a new file.

Oh dear, I couldn't create the new folder. Do you think i can use the filename you used?

I'm guessing it needs to be the same name as the file in your folder. I've sometimes found that when I delete the file it won't let me make the folder with that name. So delete the file, reboot the phone and then try making the folder and naming it.

My phone has not replaced the folder yet ( I tried to rename it as a file) so I will leave well alone. I'll let you know if it reappears
