I'm very much in the same scenario. I rooted because it sounded cool, not because I had any real reason to need to. Now I'm looking to overclock to see if it speeds up web browsing any. And I'm looking to get custom themes and hopefully more home screens.

Something that I know I read about but haven't been able to find since is blocking ads. How do I do this (currently running rooted 2.1)

Download AdFree Android from the market. Make sure as with any program that uses root to allow it permission, then download and install hosts.

Also, the ad-blocking feature is built into bugless pete's roms so you don't have to use memory running adfree in the background.
