Not very impressed by invisibleSHIELD

Im a big fan of Ghost Armor. I installed it on my LG Dare 17 months ago, and it still looks great. I did pull off the corner pieces about a year after I put it on because they were starting to peel off, I wasnt really concerned with protecting the corners anyway. They sent me enough armor to cover the phone 3 times, I just deceided not to reinstall on the corners. I got the Droid on Thursday and went on ghostarmor.com that night and ordered it for my new phone. For $15(plus $8 shipping) its well worth it to protect your phone.

The Motorola Droid has a shape that makes us design small strips to cover the corners and edges. Admitted they are difficult to apply. Please see our Tech Tips to aid in the installation. We do try and cover as much of the Motorola Droid as possible.

Guru

Thanks, Guru! :) I'll check the site. The old skin I had for a different phone had the skin designed so that triangles were cut out of the corners. This way, it fully wrapped the corners of the front and back smoothly. I'm sure that's more difficult on smaller phones (as that company doesn't seem to do it for all phones anymore), but it was a nice idea.

I have invisible shield on my hero now and its perfect.. But i should explain that ive installed them on a G1,a Pre,a Droid and my hero so ive had some practice. They are a pain to get on. The secret i think is that you need to be very detail oriented to get it on right... It takes alot of time and concentration to get it on just right. Im a tig welder, and ive built tons of small models and have always been into building and creating things... so im very detailed when it comes to stuff like this,i may have an unfair advantage. :)

With all the pieces if even one is off by just a little bit it can throw the whole thing off,and then your screwed. On the phones ive put it on the back piece in general is the most important because it is the biggest and hardest to work with. So you should start with the back piece, and then the screen and then the rest of the pieces.

I was very frustrated the first couple times cause these things are a pain to get on just right. But luckily theyll replace it for free,so even if you screw it up youll still get a second shot.

I bought one for my hero at best buy and made the mistake of letting the sales chick put it on... Now i dont really know what i was thinking and why i thought that would be a good idea. She butchered it.. it wasnt straight, lots of bubbles, and pieces even over lapped each other. She was like maybe 20,and blonde. But for some reason i figured since she offered she must know how to do it. So ofcourse i exchanged it for another and did it myself.

Now im happy, and its on my phone perfectly.

Ditched invisishield because their full body protection is a joke and the orange peel texture is unacceptable. Went with the $1.00 el cheapo 3M screen shield. Even so, the DROID comes with Gorilla glass that pretty much invincible to deep scratches... micro-scratches yeah, but impervious to keys.

I’d like to know something that no one here is talking about - how are these screen protectors with fingerprints and oily marks?

I’m using the stock Verizon protector on both my Droid and my wife’s Eris, and they SUCK. They look SOOOO freaking dirty with fingerprints and crap.

And no, we are not oily freaks. If you breathe on the stupid thing it makes a mark!

SO, how is Invisible Shield and/or Phantom Skinz and/or Boxwave and/or Ghost Armor for fingerprints and oily marks??

ALSO -- all this talk of water and soap and squeegies, aren't you guys afraid of WATER DAMAGE to your phone?????

1) Most all screen protectors, even those with "films" on them said to prevent fingerprints, are going to get smudges on them. As long as there are fingers touching screens, you'll eventually have to get OCD about it and wipe.

2) Water damage shouldn't be a problem. You're not dousing the film or the phone with water. Just be sure to squeegee away from any openings.

yes the verizon ones i hear suck, take it off!

I want to know this too however - isn't installing with these products prone to water damage or anything? i mean it is electronic and such...

from reading this thread it seems like phantomskinz is the way to go -- does this act as a screen protector too? if i do go ahead with phantonskinz, do i need a "case" (i really dont want one)?

I am very unhappy with the Zagg invisishield I installed. Most of it is probably my fault as this is the first time I have ever done it.

First no matter how much I tried it still got bubbles stuck in it. The feel is very orange peely. Also it must have been off just a fraction. I put it in my leather side case and when I pulled it out a corner of the invisishield stuck to the inside and started to pull it off so I have one corner that isn't really attached anymore.

So it has been installed a total of 2 days and looks like ass. :(

I will grant that the installation problems are my own fault and no fault of Zagg though. I still don't like the feel and loss of clarity it gives so when I rip this one off after buying a new one it won't be another invisishield.

This is only for the glass, I did not buy the full body coverage.

I'd still like to know what the best brand is for fingerprint and oily-mark protection. I know, I know, nothing is perfect for this, but which one is the BEST?

Regarding fingerprints (and I've had both on my Droid): Zagg is TERRIBLE and shows every drop of oil, and whats worse, you can't wipe it off with your finger, it just seems like your pushing it around on the screen. Phantomskinz seems to hide the oil pretty well and wipe off easily.

Zagg definitely seemed less responsive in terms of touch input to me.

Water damage is not an issue during install provided you use a tad bit of common sense and don't pour it down the holes ;)

I did full body coverage, installed by a zagg technician at the airport while I watched him, and after installing my own phantomskinz, I felt that he did it RIGHT.

NEVERTHELESS, the corner of mine peeled off and looked like ass after 3-4 days (not the screen, on the body).
