Note 2 and external powered speakers

Hi. Hoping someone can help me. I have an old set of Harman Kardon computer speakers (the original Soundsticks). They are powered (plug into wall outlet) and connected to my old iMac via usb. I would love to set them on my desk at work and connect my Galaxy Note 2 to the speakers to listen to my tunes/Pandora/Spotify, etc. Can't connect them to my work computer due to company rules. I bought a usb-to-micro-usb cable but nothing happens. Do I need some type of driver? Am I just out luck? The audio output mode on my phone is set to play external speakers when docked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and welcome. My son has one of these and he simply plugs the 3.5mm stereo connector of the Soundsticks (from the powered bass unit end) into his phone's headset jack. His Soundsticks don't have USB connection.

Can't you try it this way?

No, heat57, that won't work for me. There is no 3.5mm jack. Only the usb cable that you would plug into a computer. This is an OLD set of Soundsticks. I think I bought them in 2003 or so. But thanks for responding!

Yes you would need a driver.
I doubt there is a driver for those speakers for android.
You can try a usb to 3.5mm audio jack converter. [One that will convert audio to the usb interfase the speakers use. Which I also doubt there is]

But what I would do. Is get a stereo pro audio big jack cable. One with the scrww of sheathing like a guitar cable, and then un hook one jack and wire this to the board in the speaker for the audio signal before the amp, then get a big jack to 3.5mm converter.

However after all that is said and done you will have spent more money than a new set with a 3.5 mm jack cost at a thrift store perhaps.
