Help Note 2 dead during use

Greetings,

My note 2 died after 4 months of use; and it was dead right after I hung up on a call and it never turned on again; the red light of some sensor on top blinked. Phone is fully charged and is not rooted at all.

I used my phone with care and had it accidently drop 1-2 times but that was on carpet, not so hard and about 2 months prior to when it died.

I took it to my service center and they said your phone's mother board is damaged and did not accept it for warranty; this is wired!

How can a damaged mother board work for another 3 months?
Is this some known issue? I just read about sudden death syndrome and some know issues; could it be due to that? Or any luck with it? Or am I missing something or was told the wrong thing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What reason did the service centre give for not accepting the phone back?

It certainly sounds like SDS, Samsung are aware of this and as far as I'm aware, have publicly stated that they will repair any affected models under warranty, even if rooted!

I'd take it back to the service centre and ask for specifics as to why they are refusing to repair a phone that is still well within its warranty period and suffering from a well-known fault. If that fails, get in touch with somebody higher up in Samsung. Trust me, if enough complaints start coming in, and going to the right people, they will begin to take notice.

Hmm...what provider?

Depending on which provider, just look up the 1 year limited warranty info on the Samsung website. To me, it sounds like this issue should be covered under the warranty.

They said my mother board is damaged and a bit deshaped and it caused short circuiting over the period of time! How come is this possible ??

Is there a way i can confirm SDS with my phone in dead state?

They = who? Your provider or Samsung?

You need to contact Samsung for warranty repair.

This doesn't sound user inflicted.

Contact Samsung. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200

Unfortunately my warranty is specific to my provider i am not sure if samsung service center would examine it or not!

It seems lile they sold me a refurbished phone may be for a full price! This is too frustrating..

I will check with samsung directly of they can determine.

Huh? What are you talking about? Samsung has a 1 year limited warranty on all phones (regardless of provider). If it's determined that the motherboard went bad, at no fault of your own, then why shouldn't Samsung warranty their product (at least for 1 year).

So, I ask again, what's the name of your provider?

Its a local provider of my country you wont b knowing them though the mobile is of t mobile but my i dont have t mobile here so its international!

Just a quick question what hardware damage does SDS cause ??

Samsung has a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase or date of manufacture if you have no proof of purchase.

You could've saved some time, had you just provided the info (even if I hadn't heard of your provider). The reason I was asking for that info, is so that I could link you to the appropriate page that would show warranty info.

I'm assuming T-Mobile international or UK version?
Warranty Information | SUPPORT | SAMSUNG UK

Now, if it's not the UK T-Mobile International version, then I would search the applicable region for whichever version of the Note 2 you have and contact Samsung from there.

I have absolutely no clue what hardware damage the SDS causes. I was just trying to get you in contact with Samsung directly because, if the motherboard was not fried due to your doing, then I'd imagine Samsung should cover that.

Hello again guys,

Firstly thanks alot for your help with this.
I just wanted to update on my current condition/status of my Note 2.

I got my Note 2's mother board replaced; and its once again back to life. However, I runned the app "EMMC CHECK" from google Play Store and it shows me...

Type: VTU00M
FwRev: 0xf1

i.e. INSANE Chip! :-(

Does this mean my phone died previously due to SDS and might die again? Is it the processor what causes this or what? It seems like I am again on an INSANE chip. What do I need to do?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Possibly yes.

Check your phones version (settings /about device /version and if it's not 4.1.2 update it.
4.1.2 has a fix for SDS.
