Help Note 2 Freezing, please help

hi,

Ive had my note 2 for 3+ months now. its an unrooted international version. as of yesterday however ive experienced a lot of crashes/ its been freezing alot necessitating battery pulls to restart, sometimes even a 4-5 in a row just to be able to use the phone.

it crashes in a different application every time screen goes black or fades and the buttons become unresponsive. ive tried deleting any suspicious applications but nothing is working and issue isnt solved. sometimes can go hours without any problem but have preformed atleast 50 battery pulls today.

how do i fix this problem, a factory restore is an absolute last resort...

thanks

Welcome to Android Forums, snuggliebear.

Yes, as mentioned above, I'd strongly suspect an app or widget recently installed or re-configured is not playing nice with other programs in your Note 2.

I'd clear the works. Just my way of troubleshooting that: clear cache and data on all 3rd party apps/widgets FIRST. Then reboot and THEN uninstall them; don't just go in and uninstall because sometimes they will leave behind something nasty in memory.

This includes launchers and launcher skins and icons etc. A pain in the neck to do, but if the device is crashing it is slowly becoming unusable. The most suspect items are weather and social networking widgets... but other things like task managers and games have been known to cause this behavior.

Then, reinstall them one at a time.. run the device for at least a day or so..if ok, install another one.. keep going until it crashes, then uninstall the last one or two. ;)

Having the exact same issue. Started roughly 2 weeks ago, steadily got worse. My phone has also rebooted itself a couple of times. I've done a FR which seemed to work, until I re-installed some apps. Thing is, going through them one by one is pretty much a no-go, as like for you, mine sometimes will go for hours with no problems. So I may remove an app (as I did earlier), think it has fixed, only to find 6-8 hours later that the problem still persists.

Did you ever get yours fixed?

Hi guys

same problem here. About 2 weeks ago the phone started freezing randomly. After much mucking about, I did a full factory reset and wiped all caches and without installign any apps, it froze again about an hour after I wiped it!

The last two days have been good, but again this afternoon it froze. driving me nuts!!!

I am rooted and on XXDLL4 stock rom.

I advise restarting your phone in safe mode and running it for a day or so like that. If it doesn't freeze in safe mode you know it's a third party app causing the problem.

I cut and paste this from the Quick Links thread:

You can start your Samsung Galaxy Note in Safe Mode to boot into Android with a default set of software. This mode is used in the event when an app has been loaded onto the phone that causes it to no longer start or function correctly. Booting in Safe Mode allows you access to start the device properly and remove the app or fix the setting that caused the problem.

1. Power the Galaxy Note off.

2. Press and hold the Power button to turn the device on.

3. Once you see the animation on the screen, continuously tap the Menu button. (Button with 3 lines below the screen)

Once the device loads the Android OS, you should see the words “Safe Mode” appear in the lower-left corner of the home screen. You may have to unlock the screen to see these words. If you don’t see them, turn the Galaxy Note off and try again.

When you are finished with Safe Mode, you can press and hold the Power button, then tap Power off. You can then power on the device as normal.
