Help note 2 roaming in UK

doobre

Lurker
on a recent trip to the UK i could not get my note 2 LTE to work. I have an etisalat simm and int roaming is active, as per the etisalat helpline..

this was the first time out of the UAE with this phone but the same simm (in a nokia E6) has been outside the UAE before I had international roaming.. and at that time I could send and receive SMS and receive calls into the phone without any issue... no calls from the phone..

the problem was that the note 2 would not register to any UK network. it would list only four available. and selecting one of them or allowing automatic selection would always result in a failure... "network not available"

if my etisalat simm was put into a samsung S2 at the same location, the phone would find many more networks, approx. 12, and each entry would show up with its speed in brackets.. for example.. vodaphone (3G), vodaphone(4G)
BUT again it would NOT register to any network and gave the same "network not available" message..

if my etisalat simm was put into a HTC one at the same location, the phone would register without issue, the list of networks shown was even more than the S2, but it was not possible to make calls, a message saying that calls from this phone are not allowed is shown.

if I put the UK simm from the HTC into my note 2, the phone would register without issue, but again it was not possible to make calls, a message saying that calls from this phone are not allowed is shown.

I spent a long time on 3 international calls to the etisalat customer helpline but all they said was that if the HTC worked then there is no problem with the etisalat simm, the problem must be with my phone..

they did not have an answer as to why the S2 would not register..

so I never did get my note 2 to work in the UK..

please, any ideas/suggestions/comments..!!!???

cheers

Actually I don't understand why some of your phones showed more than 4 networks - I've never known one show different bands as different networks.

A UAE handset will be using bands which are used in the UK. So if all 3 handsets were unable to make calls I'd have assumed it was the SIM (the fact that it worked before isn't a guarantee - if the network messed-up your settings or had a problem with their systems it could stop working). The fact that you couldn't make calls even when registered using the HTC means they can't claim that it was "working".

What's really odd though is the UK SIM not being able to make calls from the Note. If the handset were blacklisted I'd expect it not to register. It wasn't set to 4G only or something odd like that? You can't currently make calls using 4G, so that could do this, but it seems an unlikely setting.

Thanks for the reply...
The note2 was set to auto (2g/3g/4g)..
I did not buy the note2 from etisalat.. could they blacklist it cos of that...
Weird as u say. .

Blacklists are only for stolen phones, and in that case I don't think it would register at all. Plus it's the handset that gets blacklisted, not the SIM, and you had problems with the SIM in different handsets. So I don't think it can be that.
