Help Note 3 Accelerometer Not Working

jeremyczh

Lurker
I went swimming yesterday with my waterproof bag for my Note 3. I may have used it with my wet hands but i didn't drop it into the water. As soon as i got home, i found out that there was water after taking out the cover. It wasn't a lot and i had to wipe all of the water. The next day, i tried watching some youtube videos, but it doesn't reorient. I've tried turning auto-rotate on and off, changing the rom, wiping factory data but nothing works. I'm not sure if its the water that caused this but it seems suspicious. Its very annoying and i wanna get it fixed as soon as possible. Any ideas on how to fix it or how much it would cost to?

Thank you in advance. :)

If it took in water, you should take the battery out and perform the old rice trick. Put the phone in a zip lock bag filled with rice, and it will absorb any water in the phone. It's worked for me and others in the past when phone acts up due to water

But will it still work after a day?

I've tried the trick but nothing happened still. Turns out, none of my sensors, proximity, gyroscope, all of them. Can I do something about it or do I have to send it back to Samsung? Does warranty cover these repairs? Thanks

If it is water damage causing your problems, and this does sound likely, your warranty will not cover it.

While the "rice trick" can get a phone dried out and working in some cases the damage is done. Corrosion starts and does not stop. Unless affected components are replaced or the phone is stripped down and given a thorough clean in an isopropyl alcohol bath, then thoroughly dried out properly before reassembly then the device will probably fail in one way or another within three months.

You will hear people say differnt and that they have/know of a phone that is still working correctly years after water damage once dried out, but these are exceptions to the rule.
