Help Note 3 says "custom" in status?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N900 ATNT, and its been several months and I haven't got the Andriod Lollipop Update. In the device status it says "custom". Also, when I boots up my phone, with the phone name, there is a symbol of an unlocked lock, and the words "custom" under it. I wonder if that has anything to do with my phone not being able to install the new update. I bought my phone used from Ebay, and the previous owner had rooted the phone. Today I found out it was rooted and unistalled root after trying out some root apps. Now, my phone is unrooted but it still says "custom". What should I do to get the new update?

The previous owner must have flashed a custom recovery or something so an update won't work.
The only way I know around it is to use the Odin software on a PC to flash official firmware

It means the Knox counter has been tripped. Previous owner must have rooted it, modified it, etc. There's a non-resettable e-fuse in the phone, which is used to indicate any unauthorised modifications or tampering of the phone's firmware, also means warranty is void AFAIK.

AT&T just released a Lollipop update for their Note 3 in the US two weeks ago [ http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB423151&cv=820 ] but Sam Mobile doesn't have a ROM for that version yet [ http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N900A/ ] it does have one for the Verizon version [ http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N900V/ ] and some select Eastern European and Far Eastern countries [ http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N900/ ] so I would guess it's just a matter of waiting for Sam Mobile to get you a ROM to flash.

So what does it mean, I can't get the new update?

Is having a custom ROM bad for the phone? Will it drain battery life?
