Help Note 3 screen doesn't unlock

Hi, I'm having a problem with my note 3 screen not unlocking.

When the phone is locked and the screen is black, I press the unlock or home button and nothing happens. The screen just remains black. I have to wait for the phone to behave for a couple of minutes and try again.

It's this a known issue? I am running Android 4.4.2.

N.b. The screen isn't dim, it's black and unresponsive.

Have you tried to reboot your note? Resetting your device should clear most issues.

Do you mean rebooting as in resetting to factory default?

I would try but am worried about losing my stuff. Samsung Kies doesn't work properly with my device. Is there any other option for rebooting?

This happens to me sometimes when I take my phone off the charger. I end up having to just pull the battery out and restart it like that.

While on charger, my phone also gets very hot and when I take it off sometimes, it just keeps getting hotter and hotter until I just have to tell it to restart itself and bam problem is gone. These weird things only happen sometimes and always after charging the phone. I have not tried charging the phone while off to see what happens.

Rebooting is restarting. (And some ROMS allow a soft or fast restart - that just starts Android running again.) What some 4.4.2 updates need (it seems to depend on the phone - my wife's had no problems after the update) is a factory reset.

Anything you don't want to lose should be backed up anyway (if the phone is stolen or run over by a truck you can't recover anything from it). Apps not so important unless you got an app from someplace you can't find any more. But even a paid app on Play is free to download again. Use a backup program like Helium to back up the apps and data if you prefer. (I use Helium for data but App Backup and Restore for apps, because putting an apk in its folder makes it restorable through the app.)

Copy all your pictures, videos, music, etc., to your computer and to a cloud account. (Always have backups in 2 locations - houses burn, there are hurricanes, etc. Paranoia doesn't exist when it comes to backing up important things. That baby will NEVER take its first steps again.)

Once everything is backed up, factory reset, make sure the screen unlocks properly. If it doesn't, the phone is still under warranty, so find your nearest carrier's repair place and bring it there. (How and where it's done depends on the carrier.) Don't even bother reinstalling anything - they'll probably either reflash the update or replace the phone, either of which means that anything you reinstalled will be gone.

Her's what worked for me;

Take out the battery
Put the battery back in and turn it on
Restart the phone using the power button menu

I haven't had that happen since.

Are you using a custom rom or rooted phone with customizations?
