Help note 3 with black screen

[Note 3 broken]

I have a note 3 with black screen but working lights, sounds etc. Already got my insurance replacement and switched over cell services but need to get photos and videos off. Old note has a lock code and I got a otb cord for hdmi and USB mouse that I know work because it is fully functional with my new note 3. Can't get the screen to come on over hdmi on my old note 3, however. Any ideas? Is there something else wrong or another way to get these files off?

Sounds like it's a software problem stopping it making a picture and not hardware (the screen) that's why hdmi isn't working. Take it your pics aren't on the sd card.. Have you checked?
