Note 8 is official...what do you think?

I tell ya... tough crowd! Watching the presenters give those pregnant pauses, waiting for applause that didn't happen, hurt!
😁
A lot was expected, there were a few software surprises... I just hate that I have to put up with this stupid Note 5 for three more weeks! I can hardly wait for pre-orders to open!

The Galaxy Note 8 is finally official. Nothing out of the ordinary happened at the event. The leaks kinda ruined the surprise, as usual. What do you guys think about it now? Are you going to buy it?
IM PASSING.not financially viable, for nearly 1000. more ram good spen maybe, extra zoom maybe. for those who held out its worth it, for others like me, tired burning bucks every 4 months OUT OF POCKET.

Ugh, nearly 1k, I mean I saw that coming, prices have steadily risen, but my goodness. It just hurts to think about. A grand!

actually i ran out of carriers to have one that wont imprison me with a payment plan or unlocking.

DONT get me started on smartpay lease nightmare

and value of s8 plus is an insult to get 2 or 300 max for tradein.

Note 8 prices I've seen reported...

Verizon - $960
T-Mobile - $930
AT&T - $950
Sprint - $960

Looks like a nice phone, but wow that's expensive.

add taxes and fees and lost value of tradein

i have credit but dont work. disabled. it would crush me.

I've always had the Samsung note and really don't want any other phone. However I hate the curved screens. If the note 8 only comes with the curved screen. They can keep it. I'll just have to get another note 5. I just don't get the curved screens. They are so hard to hold and when you put a case on them. It just wont stay on. What a shame. Terrible design.

its curved but lesser radius

Jesus Christmas I cannot pay that for this phone. I have waited a long time for it, too. I mean like I said I sorta expected it but.... sigh... I dunno, looks like I need to consider sticking with my 4 or going non-flagship.

It sounds like you won't be buying another Note, or Samsung flagship of any sort, in the foreseeable future. If you leave out the niche Galaxy S Active devices (which seem to be made for 1 carrier in 1 country) their last flat-screened flagship was the smaller S7, 18 months ago. This is the second curved Note in a row, and as the S8 has been outselling the S7 it's unlikely we'll see a flat-screened Samsung flagship next year either.

IM NOT buying it because i cant eat it or live in it and it doesn't drive yet.my s8 plus is spen less of a note 8. i had 2 note 7s. DONE.

i didn't see this mentioned but i did read that if you had to return a note 7 that you would get a discount on the note 8 of $425usd. i don't know if you would need to turn in your present phone. if you do, the deal would not be very good.

Yes, return of note 7. Unless it's stated at point of sale, anyone can say they owned one, but if Samsung can look it up In ownership via imei or email it's a deal breaker.

Well, we're talking about what is essentially a computer you can put in your pocket. I'll be calling Samsung back when they open in the morning to find out if there is a specific discount or promotion for those of us who went through the Note 7 recall. Especially those of us who went through BOTH recalls. I'll keep you posted!

Meh....might look at a Huawei or something.

What happened to carriers subsidizing handset costs. Don't they do that anymore?

I'll be passing. Even if I wasn't a Moto guy first and foremost, I've heard that the Samsung skin over Android is a very in depth skin and I prefer more of a stock experience. Also I think much of the device is overkill, I mean just how much RAM and onboard memory does one need? The screen size at 6+ inches diagonally makes it absurdly large and at approaching one-thousand dollars I just can't afford it. I work in an industry that has a lot of contact with the public, hence we have a lost and found drawer. I've got enough IPhones in my lost and found drawer to open a mall kiosk. I remember the week the S8 was introduced, sure enough one showed up in my lost and found drawer. It was gone the next day so presumably the guy came back for it, but I couldn't imagine paying one-thousand dollars for a phone and then damaging or losing it...

Even if my tax refund came in this time of year I just can't wrap my mind around paying close to $1000 USD for an unlocked phone. I like the looks, I like the size, the S-pen is cool but it just costs too much.

Maybe if they threw in a Gear VR, DEX dock, and a Gear S3 Frontier in the box I'd consider it. :)
