Note as a Phone (Considering switching to Note)

I am a current HTC Sensation user, and really love the phone. But, seeing the Galaxy S3 and the Note really has me itching for something new. Fortunately, my daughter is due for an upgrade in a week and the Galaxy S3 will be what she gets. I can play with that to see what I like....but it's bigger than my Sensation, so I already love that.

BUT, in the course of looking at the S3, I also looked at the Note (held both in my hand). For all things non-phone......I love the Note and the size. For my 40+ year old eyes, it's gotta be a huge improvement.

But, just curious about carrying it around for one, and then how well it can be used as a phone. I have a bluetooth in my car, so all handsfree there....no problem. But, holding it to my ear......is it awkward? I worry about that.

I am a big guy, with big hands so I can manage it I think.....but is it comfortable to do? Any issues?

Thanks.....if I'm spending this much $$ on a new phone, I want to love it.

If I was you, I'd wait for the note 2. Coming out end of this year, and will more than likely have the cool features of the s3.

In regards to using the phone without a Bluetooth headset, it's fine. It doesn't look weird or awkward holding the phone up to your ear or anything. Sometimes you need to hold the phone with two hands, like laying in bed for instance, but most of the time it's fine with one hand.

I use my Note as a phone, same reason as you suggest, eyesight, only mine is 75 not 40!

No problem at all with it, though I do tend to use it on speaker mostly (as I do with any phone, arthritic thumbs).

Works great as a phone for me. I don't do hands free cause I don't talk on the phone often enough, but it feels great held up to my head. I don't think I could come up with a complaint if I tried.

Like dude above said, wait for Note 2 and maybe get one shipped over to use on t-mobile cause it takes longer for US launches from what I've seen.

I'm 43 but still have 20/20 vision no glasses yet. It takes some getting used to the size about 2 weeks but adjust quickly. I came from the Iphone 4 so big difference literally. But its very light for its size. I got a slim protective case from Amazon cheap (less than $5) so it wouldn't add bulk but still protect it somewhat. Fits just fine in my front and back pockets with jeans on. I dont have large hands but still a big guy 6'2 220. I get nothing but great comments on it everywhere I go with it. Most people woudnt have a phone this size its sort of for the niche market, big guys that like big screens and are techies for the most part. I can use it one handed to text and email with some extra effort. I'm still waiting for the ICS update thru AT&T seems like we will be the last ones to get it here in the US. Now they are already talking about the Note 2 coming in October to go up against the Iphone 5. It will have a 5.5 inch screen with a quad core and better camera which takes great pics btw. Video is great as well. I just wish it came with 2Gb of ram like the S3 does I think that would make it alot better phone. It only has about 750 mb of 1Gb after the OS takes its part and it uses on average about 450mb of that at any one time. Great as a phone, loud and clear calls. Overall pretty happy with it coming from an Iphone 4 which seems very tiny now when compared, its hard to believe I used that small a screen for so long after using this. Plus if you dont like it you have 30 days most places to exchange it.
