Help Note Can't Find WiFi Signal

Just moved into a new office, and I have bugger-all control over the router and its settings.

When I try to scan for WiFi on my Note, it does not see the local router. My Windows 7 laptop sees it and connects, my iPad sees it and connects. My phone has always connected to other networks as necessary (home, cafes, airport lounges, etc.)

The router broadcasts its SSID. I have tried manually adding the network into the phone; it saves it, but says "Not in Range". This is even though my laptop shows five bars' strength, and I'm standing underneath the repeater.

This is the first time I've tried connecting the phone to the router, but it's also the first time I tried connecting my laptop or my iPad, and they're both fonzie.

It's a Galaxy Note (1) running 4.0.4.

Suggestions welcome.

so i moved the thread to the note forum where folks who have your phone can help you out better.

saw this moved from gen chat and it sounds awful familiar to what some Razr Maxx users and Note 8 users are experiencing when going from ICS -> JB

the solution, at least so far as i have seen, is that the router is old and unsupported by the phone and needs to be replaced.

the bad part is that you're in an office, and may or may not have control over that.

if it's not that, then i have no idea.

Installing 'WiFi Analyser' on your phone may cast some light on the problem. One of the options it has is to plot a chart of WiFi signals against channel number. Hopefully, it will show whether the phone can 'see' the router, the signal strength and channel number. If the channel number is at the extreme end of the range it may mean that the phone struggles to connect. It may also struggle to connect if there are a number of other routers transmitting on the same channel.

Yeah I have no control over router.

I will install WiFi Analyser - but I'll have to wait until I get home from office tonight. It's a US SIM card and I'm in Sydney - so I don't want to pay Vodafone's rates to DL the app!

Will report back in <12 hours.

Thanks

That might need a new mortgage :D

I'd like to hear how hear how you get on - but no rush!

Well, duh. I installed the Analyzer, but I can't analyse nuthin' til I get back to office in AM.
