Note + ICS = Huh?

Alright--so I use to be an Apple Fanboi until I was in Ireland and I got a hook up with purchasing a Galaxy Nexus International version. I brought it back and put it on AT&T. When the Galaxy Note came out I couldn't resist; I bought it and never looked back (except for my small 22 hour stint with Verizon and a Nexus, it wasn't the same.)

Now I decided to put the leaked ICS ROM on my Note and I'm just like "HUH?"

I thought ICS big hoohah was the style and how it looked on the Nexus. I realize now that the ICS on the Note looks; like the note. There ain't much fancy "Ice Blue" in it--the settings menu is the same but the icons are standard Gingerbread. The Google search bar that is standard on all Nexus doesn't exist; it's the same Google search that you click on and it opens another window. The phone dialer is not the same as the Nexus. The favorites is crap; it looks like I have a Windows phone; I don't need these huge 3x3 blocks of my people's faces; just give me a list.

All in all -- I'm not impressed. I thought ICS for the Note would be better. Unfortunately it looks like the Nexus got the cool end of the stick and all we got was a stylus and a huge freaking screen.

:fight:

That was to be expected based on the Samsung preview videos of ICS and premium suite for the Note. Introducing Premium Suite with ICS for Galaxy Note - YouTube

Gingerbread on the Note looks like Touchwiz. ICS on the Note will look like Touchwiz. If the Note gets an official release of Jellybean, it will look like Touchwiz. Samsung never promised otherwise.

Nexus phones are about the pure Android experience. (Almost) Everyone else gets that, at his/her own risk, only via custom ROMs.

I'd recommend you flash a stock ICS ROM for the Note if they have one, otherwise it's like dude just said, it's gonna have touchwhiz.

Well you gotta avoid anything official cause they'll bloat it up. I'm sure somebody will put out a badass ICS rom with stock everything and tablet mode turned on. I'd try that out.

I hope someone does; does that mean I have to root my phone?

Yes, you would have to root your phone then. Every phone that you purchase that isnt a nexus device is going to have some type of launcher on top of the main launcher. HTC sense ui didnt change on the leaked ICS, same with samsung.

Cyanogenmod 9 will most likely be your best bet. They have a good international version out with some S-pen support, not sure about the LTE version yet.

My plan right now is to wait for the official OTA update to come out, and use LauncherPro to avoid of some of the Touchwiz. After some time, when CM9 matures for the Note (and lots of other people on the same carrier as me have tried it), I'll move over to that for the 'pure' ICS experience.

I'm a huge fan of Go Launcher EX; it's what I'm using right now.
