Note II music/charging in car adapter?

Hello everyone! I guess you can call me a "noob" on here. First post. I am currently an iphone 4 user and am going to make the switch to the Note 2. I'm really excited about it! So, i'm trying to stock up on some accessories for it before it comes (waiting for ATT). I have a 2011 Hyundai Elantra that comes with an 3.5mm/usb cord that plugs into my car ( ebay description GENUINE FACTORY IPOD CABLE FOR 2011- 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA) and it works great with my iphone. It charges and can play my music through the stereo system and shows the songs on my built in GPS and can change songs through my steering wheel buttons. I like the simplicity of the one cord but I know this won't work with the new Note2. I found an adapter on ebay and was wondering if this would work with the new Note 2 and my existing cable? (ebay description Apple ipad Iphone docking 30pin female to Micro usb 5p male data charge adapter) Sorry I can't post links yet. Thanks!

Good question!

I can post the link in question here.

So if I'm understanding right your car has a specific built in iPhone 30-pin cable. I'm renting a Hyundai Santa Fe as a company car right now and it has just a USB port...is yours JUST the 30-pin adapter cable built right in?

I see no reason why this WOULDN'T work but there is something to keep in mind too...newer smartphones require a larger amperage to really charge. The OG Droid required 500mAh, because they also drained less. When I got my Samsung Galaxy Nexus I quickly learned that it wasn't charging at full speed in my car, (it actually drained quicker sometimes than it would charge causing a slow drain over all anyways. (Battery status screen would show USB detected not AC). I actually had to do two things:

-buy data shorted charging cables for it to be properly detected as AC
-Ensure my cigarette lighter charger was 2.1amp capable.

I think you have a few options here:

-Try the adapter from eBay. It may work but only at 500mAh.
-Buy a cigarette adapter and the data shorted cable
-Go to a Hyundai dealer and see if there's aftermarket or supported cables they can REPLACE. It may be cheap and simple to do!

I have a 2011 Sonata and I think that music streaming can work in only one of three ways:

1. Audio over Bluetooth (for suckers)
2. Using a FAT32 formatted mass storage device IE a thumb drive
3. Using an Apple product

So, in other words, you can do it through one cable IF you can cause your phone to appear through USB as FAT32 mass storage and IF it doesn't exceed the power limits of the USB port. This would be done using a regular MicroUSB cable. If the power limits are exceeded you may be able to get fancy and involve a pigtailed (double ended) USB cable wherein the power comes from a cigarette adapter and the data goes through the car USB.

Consequently, I do not think the cable you linked to on eBay would work. In the Apple setup, audio is eventually piped through the audio jack and not the USB port. The USB port in that context is only used for power and to signal the device to change tracks.

Be sure to invest in a high quality car adapter, as the quality of +5v power to your phone depends on the regulators in the adapter and poor power can kill your digitizer (touch screen) or phone over time.

Also pardon I must have missed that point...audio streaming will not work with that adapter...only charging is what I was talking to. You can have them hook up a 3.5 jack to the Aux port which is likely using the 30pin currently.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and input! My car right now has a usb, 3.5mm and cigarette charger. Did samsung come out with a car charger yet for the Note 2? Maybe I can just be safe and get something like that. Now for playing audio, will a regular 3.5mm cable work and play as AUX? I did end up calling my local Hyundai dealership and asked if they had a cable for non apple products and they do not. :( All I basically want to do is play music from my phone through the speakers and charge the phone using the least amount of cables as possible! :)

I suggest you get a really cheap 3.5mm adapter from monoprice or cables to go. I ordered one for my gf that was retractable to make the length easy. Also got her one of the cigarette lighter chargers, dual port one for her phone, one for gps. Also got her a data shorted cable to ensure the 2.1amp showed up as AC in the phone and not just USB.

For you though you might just need the cable, 'cause you have a free USB port :)

thanks for the help! I clicked on your link for the data shorted cable and nothing came up on amazon...is there something I should type in the search box to locate that cable? Thanks

Let me see if I can find it in my Amazon purchased items.

Here this should work:

Amazon.com: Naztech Micro USB Charging Cable - BlackBerry, Cal-Comp, HTC, LG, Samsung, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson: Cell Phones & Accessories

Naztech Micro USB Charging Cable

Basically they short out the connection for data, so you cannot use the cable for transferring things to PC but most no one does that, and you can use dropbox or whatever easily for those things. (I'm sure you have some cables that are regular anyways. $5 a cable, very cheap.
