Note4 vs. Nexus 6?

I didn't want to wait any longer, for more info on where and when they would allow me to spend my money on the NexSix 64GB.
Just ordered two unlocked black Note 4s (32 GB) with octa cores and 64GB sd cards. Sans contract. :p

You won't regret it :D congrats!

Where did you buy unlocked Note 4's from?

heard the battery is a joke on the nexus 6. Plus no multitasking is such a huge turn off especially with that huge screen to work with . No SD card and removable battery is a joke. Feels like a huge step backwards after the nexus 5 considering the price is almost if not double the nexus 5.

The N6 is bigger, less battery life, not as good display or camera, fixed battery and no sd slot. For the rom and new update addicts, none of this is a problem. I respect that none the less. Choice :)

The Nexus 6 was too big a jump by Google it seems, and the reviewers are reflecting that.

Once you go past 5.5inch, you need to pay far more attention to usability and Google did not do that it seems, infact most phablet makers haven't, this is truly Samsung territory.

One would have to be an absolute stock Android lover to pick the Nexus 6 over the Note 4 and Droid Turbo, IMO. With all the compromise made in the Nexus 6, I would not recommend it, especially at that price.

Samsung have done such a lovely job in the Note 4, from the materials used to the structure of the phone, it isn't too wide therefore easier to use one-handed. They kept the screen at a sweet spot of 5.7inch, the UI is tailored for a large display, etc...
Google have much to learn, phablets require much closer focus on detail.

My buddy works for Google and I tried out his Nexus 6. Not for me. At all. In fact, he likes my Note 4 much better than his Nexus. It's still in a trial mode, so a lot of the features weren't accessible, but the size of it is awkward. The back bows out a bit and the edges are sharper. It was slippery. It looked cheap. The screen looked really poor. I'm very happy I didn't wait for the Nexus 6 and jumped on the Note 4.

I'm with Sprint and I really enjoy tinkering (flashing ROMs etc...) The thread for the Note 2 is almost zero development, however I have a feeling that is not the same with the Nexus stuff. Samsung is the absolute worst with updates, slower than slow. I really want an external sd and removable battery, which the Nexus will never have. Dang!

on phablet usability, Google can and will update their software and most likely include some phablet stuff, probly within a few months imo. My concern is the waiting for updates and roms, I am squarely in a Dev Edition VZW Note 4 vs Nexus 6 war and I don't know who is gonna win. It is a very tough choice for me, especially seeing the Note 4 is definitely better in many hardware and display areas but the updates might just be the deal breaker for me.

I feel this year might be Nexus 6 and next year I'll go with Note 5 and their 4k display screen with a little Gear VR to boot :)

as a note 3 user I was strongly concerning the N4 or the nexus 6 and today I ordered the 6 today and after I have some personal time with that I can leave a more details review I have had time with the note 4 as well as my mother switched to one after she had the s4 for a while

I'm ready to buy whichever becomes available first... though I would very much prefer the Note 4 Developer Edition. Maybe I'll get lucky and they will come available. Again.

good luck on that one my friend on vzw :( but I think I will be in love with my 6 come here monday :D

You can disable a lot of the Samsung bloatware in the app manager. While it remains in the system storage, it doesn't utilize any resources after that. As far as TW running in the background, I do not think that it does, although I can't say that for sure.

I am running Google Now as my launcher on my S4, and I do not notice any lag or drag.

Touchwiz is more than just the launcher. It is the entire skin. Menu's, color scheme, etc. It still runs under launchers like Nova. You can't disable touchwiz.

*SIGH*

Okay, there are assurances from Samsung that more Developer Devices are in the warehouse, and I'll be calling them first thing in the morning to verify that and order mine. Next Day Delivery. I was so ready to pull the trigger on the Nexus 6 but (a) I'd miss the S-pen too much and (b) they're out of stock too! o_O

So here I am, camped out in the Note 4 forum, waiting for my unicorn LOL

Your patience will pay off big-time,especially once the ROMS start rolling-in.
Perhaps it's not exactly the same, but,at one time,I had the OG MOTO G GPE (a NEXUS-ESQUE device,if you will).
While it is a good bang-for-the-buck phone,I was totally bored w/it in a weeks time.Sold it soon thereafter.
If you're gonna spend north of $600 on a phone, might as well get one that has at least some cool features that most phones lack.
(S-PEN/IR Blaster/Wireless Charging/SD Card/etc......)

I just got word today that my 6 wont be here today but I will be waiting until dec 2-5 for my phone to arrive I was so sad just awesome news for a Monday

I've had both for the past week. I can say that the Note 4 is the better choice for me. N6 is more solidly built but it pales in almost every other area. I'm shipping the N6 back tomorrow. Even with a locked up Verizon Note 4 the choice was easy. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to like the N6 more but when you're spending this type of money the only choice was the Note 4.

The Note 4 is the more "complete" device. And that display!!!

I got my N5 last Friday and I can say I am in love so far. I thought I would be missing my spen but after not having it for a week I dont miss it, I can say I do have some complaints about my N6 but they are not deal killers for me,

So I have been sitting on this fence also... I have been wanting a Note since the # was released, but for various reasons, kept putting it off. When the 4.4.2 update nerf'ed the radio in my old GS3, I got pretty irritated with Samsung and the locked bootloaders. My GS3 was the first phone for me with a locked bootloader, and I had convensed myself that I didn't really need to root / ROM anymore, until the radio broke. Unlocked bootloader = easy fix. Locked bootloader = nearly useless phone.

Enter the Nexus. Unlocked bootloader, YEA! Phablet form, YEA! Front speakers, Woot! Few missing features, ok, I can live with it. Verizon information blackout = GRRrrr. No, I am not going to buy from GPS and pay $700. Yes, I am spoiled by 'free' phones.

So back around Nex6 launch time, I give myself to the end of the year to make a decision, and get a phone. Saturday, I go into my local VZW store and ask them about the 15 day return policy. Turns out, Christmas special, the return policy is extended to Jan 15 for all phone. So now I am thinking, if I keep chasing rumors and wait for the Nexus till mid January, and still have no phone, I will be feeling like Charly Brown trying to kick the football. Done deal, I left with a Note 4. If VZW announces the will sell the Nex6 on Edge between now and 1/15/15, I will have to re-evaluate the decision, but for now, I am really liking the Note 4. Fast, snappy, BIG! Battery life is excellent - I had a zero-lemon 7000ma battery in my GS3, so I am not in the habit of docking my phone on chargers, and I use it a lot. so far, I have not killed the battery in one day. Closest I got was Saturday, playing a lot of games, I got the battery to 10% with about 5 hours of screen on time.

Comparing to a coworkers Nex6, both phones in 'slim' cases (His, Spigen, mine Tech21) the Nexus was obviously bigger. As others noted, if you line the button bars up, and look only at usable screen size, the Note 4 is bit taller, the Nex6 at bit wider. Splitting hairs, though, they are really close in usable screen size. Screen quality - again very close, can't really tell from a few minutes in office lighting. Sound - Again, we are in an office, so did not "jam" the phones, but as antidote evidence, he is a DJ, and thinks the speakers on his Nex6 are excellent, my Note4 gets loud, but sounds tinny.

For now, I am satisfied with my N4, comparing stock devices. However, I will be watching for VZW N4 root. I really don't want another dead device due to a bone-headed Samsung update. If the Nex6 drops for VZW edge, I will have some more thinking to do...
