Help notifacations

Ok I'm new to the Android deal and I have one main question. I'm coming from.a blackberry where everything is very secure and organized. I don't understand why every incoming anything has to show up on the top bar up there. The bubble's are fine but not what what was written. Then if you drag it down you can read it there also. For example ping chat it shows it. Why ? And how do I stop it? I only want to see it in the program that's made to view it. I have password protection on my work email and ping chat and its a waist.

Depending on what apps you are using there's usually some option in the app setting to turn off the notification. Like the stock messages app has notification settings for received, sent and failed. You might just have to explore whatever app you dont want to have show up there and see if there is a way to turn it off. If not then it might be a suggestion you can send in to the app developer.

ok so your saying there is no setting in the phone to just shut off showing the (all) messages. i cant like remove the notification deal all together I shut it off in the text message setting and they still show up. that really makes no sense. so anyone holding my phone can see whatever anyone writes pop right up on the screen. that seems really really dumb. stinks i love this phone but may have to back to black berry.
