Help Notification bar says "check status"

new question: Sometimes I look on the top left of my screen and it says "Check status" then goes away about a few seconds later. Does anyone know what it is?

old question ignore: I am checking task manager and it displays nothing running. When I go into settings>applications>running services, there is a long list, things that don't seem necessary like Lookout (which I already disabled), Calender shows twice, gps navigator which is stuck on restarting. Is it safe to disable all of these?

Task Manager is for apps that are OK to kill. The running services are the things that for example calander needs to operate correctly. It won't destroy your phone killing these, but is not the best idea.

If your not rooted, try checking in the app settings. I am rooted so I can't check but you may be able to uninstall it or it may be bloatware.

No I'm not rooted. And it doesn't give me the option to disable or uninstall it. I'm new to all of this, first smartphone I've owned, what's bloatware?
