Help notification from gmail

hi there
i have galaxy 2 and recently i cant have notifications for email on my gmail app
can anyone help me pleas?

1 - Go to settings > Accounts & Sync. You should see your email address there. Tap it and make sure Sync Gmail is selected.

2 - Open Gmail. Tap menu. Tap more. Tap settings. Tap on your email address. Scroll to bottom, select 'Labels to notify'. Tap on inbox. Select ringtone or vibrate. Your phone will ring or vibrate when you get mail. Also check Email notifications if you want it to show in the status bar when you get mail.

I'm running out of ideas. Try going to settings > applications > manage applications > gmail. Clear data and cache.

I'm using gmail 2.3.6. Didn't find the account sync option, but went to the 'Labels to Notify' and there is was. I was able to set my Gmail notification to something unique, so I can now tell if it is Text message or incoming Gmail. This has been driving me Nucking Futs for months. Thanks for the assist!
