Help Notification from text not clearing when clicked

I recently updated my phone to 2.1, and whenever i get a text message, i open the notification bar, click on the notification, the message opens, but the notification does not remove itself
any suggestions?
 
Do you have an extra SMS app installed? Like Handcent/Chomp SMS?

See, that notification could be for the stock sms app, but when you click it the notification sends you to the default SMS app (which would be handcent/chomp). It's happened to me a few times on custom ROMs.

If you open up the messaging app from the app list and go to the options you can disable notifications for it.
