Help Notification LED Solid Red constant

Ok so yesterday when I unplugged my phone from the charger the notification light stayed solid red. I tried pulling the battery and putting it back in but the light stayed on. As soon as the battery touches the terminals the red led comes on. It's on even when the phone is off. After a couple of hours working with it and searching the forums i decided to do a factory reset. Unfortunately the solid red light is still there. I am out of warranty so any help is appreciated.

Firstly, welcome to the AndroidForums, compresstech. Glad you signed-up with us here.

It sounds like it might be the battery...there is (I believe) circuitry in the battery itself that interacts with the phone (i.e., reporting the voltage, temperature, etc.) and I'm thinking that its reporting (perhaps correctly?) that your battery charge is very low--leading to the always-on red LED.

Do you have another Droid X available to try swapping batteries with (perhaps taking it in to a VZW store) and seeing how one of their batteries behaves in your phone?

A battery is a much simpler (and cheaper) component to debug and replace.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply Scary Alien. I have tried a new battery at the local Verizon Corp store with same results. I think has something to do with the phone since I can leave the battery out and just plug up the charger and the red led will come on. Also the phone can be powered off and the red led is still on.
