Help Notification light for Gmail

I am using the Gmail app rather than the Mail app that came with the phone. I have the notification light turned on for email. However, it doesn't always come on when I get an email. If the phone is on and I get an email, then the green light will come on. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?

I prefer the Gmail app to the Mail app. The Mail app creates three new folders when I access Gmail on my computer (folders named [IMAP/Draft] or something to that effect, I've forgotten the actual foldername).

After more testing, it appears that the green notification light does light up. However, it only does so for about five minutes after I receive a new email. Then it stops. No one else has this problem?

It probably stops at 5 minutes so your battery doesnt die faster? Just a thought.
