Help Notification light not staying on

Hey guys, I got my 3vo a couple days ago, and have been noticing that my notification light does not stay on "forever." It seems to turn off by itself 5-15 minutes after I get a notification. Is anyone else's like this? If not, what could be wrong and/or how can I fix it so that the light blinks "forever" until I actually check the notification?

Configure Handcent for SMS/MMS and Easy Reminder for all else. Good luck

Ok, so I found a workaround while browsing XDA. Get the app Missed Reminder and turn it on so that the service is on. Then so into the SMS settings and tweak it to your liking. Keep the notification lights on, on your respective SMS app. Then test it by sending yourself a text via email (yournumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com). Then see if you like the settings or not. Hope this helps.

Sigh...Missed reminder works like a charm, but a little too well. Now the light won't turn off after I check the notification lol. Ugh, this phone has a lot of small things I don't like about it, which is putting me off and wanting me to go back to my Desire :/

Any more help on this issue would be greatly appreciated :(

Have you checked the box in reminders in Handcent to keep repeating? That is what I have mine set to and it keeps blinking until I read the text.

I do not see that option in the settings anywhere...perhaps its different for the evo3d. I dunno, but this is very irritating. My wife's evo3d does the same thing, it just turns off by itself in a matter of minutes.

It'd be really nice if HTC could patch this and allow us to define our own amount of time. It's insanely frustrating for someone who doesn't want to use something other than the stock app to have no choice in the matter (and to have it autoset to an infuriatingly low 5 minutes).

My notification light seems hit and miss too. Sometimes it blinks, sometimes it doesn't. Not a huge deal because I run SMSAwake or SMS Popup at all times. That, in fact, could be my problem alone. If it is an issue (which I'm not convinced it is) I'm sure HTC will fix it in a OTA. =)

Where did you find it?

I'm using Gosms now, but it has this setting as well. If you go under notification settings, there should be an option to check reminders, like "enable reminders." Check that box and set the number of reminders to your liking (I did infinite) and there you go, the light should blink "forever" until you check the message.

I believe the Evo 4G operated like this as well (at least mine did). The notification LED would go off for a specified amount of time and then stop. I'm pretty sure they designed it to be like that, and I'm pretty sure they are not going to fix it in an OTA. I think they do it so it doesn't stay on forever or drain the battery. The only thing they could do, is give us more options for it and let us customize it to our liking. But as far as Sense goes, they don't really have alot of handset specific customization options - and it is probably better that way. If they customized little options for every specific phone then I believe that Sense would become very watered down and fractured. And then they wouldn't be able to push updates to our phones as quickly or easily.

At least the Evo 4G had the Wimax notifier which someone designed an independent app to harness (that guy deserved a medal). It was a secondary LED that blinked until you cleared the notifications. It was a big help and kept me away from using a a third party SMS program or generic market app to extend the regular notifier.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do on the Evo 3D yet, but the app suggestions in this thread might come in handy

I'm not being a smart ass but you hit the nail on the head! I would assume as you have the notification light would drain the battery if left on for too long. Or the light would burn out due to being on for extended periods of time. Some people EVO 4G white LED lights have burned out. Then people on this forum will complain about why HTC isn't providing a warranty for the LED light or why doesn't HTC have the light turn off after a certain period of time. I think HTC does take the Apple approach and they must KISS / Keep It Simple Stupid for smartphone buyers. A vast majority of the individuals acquiring high end devices are not tech savvy and giving individuals too much leeway with their device would cause problems for HTC.

For example I had to help my girlfriend set up her router. I was just shaking my head because she whipped out a pen and paper and was writing down the security key setting, her router name, and password. I couldn't help but laugh. I said babe, its not rocket science. Just use a password you can easily remember and its kind of hard to select a router for Wifi use than your own.

I totally understand what you mean, but going android is all about options (and getting away from the iron grip of apple). So would it kill HTC to put a setting allowing for how long the notification light should blink? I mean a lot of people would agree that having a notification light turn off after a matter of minutes defeats the purpose of having a light in the first place.

But I guess if you have the option to tweak the blinker, then I guess others would still complain about other things...such is life I guess...

Its not about the minority who want something. Its about the majority of buyers who love a phone that does everything for them and provides them with a KISS in my opinion. OR maybe LEDs burn out if they are allowed to blink for so long, too often. Maybe that's why HTC will never make it an option.

This 5 min. thing really bugs the heck out of me. Just give the user the option!

Am I the only one that wants the LED to blink until I clear the notification for ALL notifications, not just SMS?

I used a program called "noLED" when I had my Nexus S (since on the Nexus S there's no led lol), and fell in love with it

Basically when you have a notification (you can change the settings however you want, either notifications from specific apps or just any notification) the screen displays a little square in the top left corner that moves around

You can color-code it depending on the notification (green for text, blue for email, whatever)

It's not quite as nice on the 3vo because unlike AMOLED, qHD has to turn the whole screen on just to display that little square (AMOLED can just turn on individual LED's so A: it looks a lot nicer and B: it uses vitually no battery)

But that could possibly be a solution for someone who wants better notifying
