Notification light

- I did NOT read every post: but just thought I'd add my thoughts.

I got the HK edition on May the Tenth. I initially didn't get LED notifications.
After my first FULL charge, I did notice I received LED notifications. First with a Calendar reminder, then e-mail. Still NOT with text. However, I kept playing with all the settings. IF, I turn the screen response of the text messages to OFF....I'll get the audible and LED notification.

So, now, I have LED notifications for Everything. Which I love, since I leave my phone in the ambulance when I'm busy with a call. I can get a quick glance at it to know "something" came through. :)

CAN'T customize color or speed of the LED

:D

....root+LF - job done :) .... did try going without mine while running another notification app - but decided after so much work getting it working i DID miss it :D

So I know this is a couple of months old but was wondering what folks experiences are with their LED notification lights?

I myself returned my M8 at the store and went through the painful experience of swapping out 3 different units all while showing the customer service rep at the Telus store that NONE of them had functional LED notification alerts.

There are two issues here, some come with hardware defects (LED physically doesn't work) or two; the software that controls the LED is not working to notify of alerts.

All the units I tried at the store had seemingly the same software bug. Although I wasn't installing apps on each to test that it worked, only if the LEDs functioned out of the box (as I shouldn't HAVE to install an app to get them working).

In the end I took home a unit that did not have working LED notification alerts, as there was no other phone that I wanted instead of the M8.

I installed Power Toggles and enabled 'pulse light notifications', and this seems to work fine to control the LED notifications, and they are now working on my phone. Most will have to use the troubleshooting techniques online to test if it's a hardware or software issue. But NONE of the phones I tried in the store had default lights working out of the box, and the reps were stunned. Sad.

My question now is I want to light up my display when a new message comes in, the same as my old S3 lit up when I got a new message. But it seems there are SO many apps that fk with the LED notifications. I installed SMS Wakeup and SMS Awake and both apps seemed to work well for lighting up my screen, but both mess with my notifications lights and conflict with what I assume to be Power Toggles, so my LED notification alerts again stop working when I install either app to light up the screen.

My gf has the same phone in Arctic White, I have the Gunmetal Grey, and her lights work find out of the box. Not only this her screen lights up when she gets a new message!!! I didn't even think the m8 did that until I saw hers light up, and she doesn't install ANY apps!

What a gong show trying to get these basic functions working. Has anyone read about HTC acknowledging and programming around this in upcoming releases?

[quick edit; I'm referring to the front facing LED pinhole light, not the camera flash LED]

Thanks for the line, I've experienced the same things as far as getting a new phone and all, and still don't have a working notification light. I just installed Power Toggles, now how do I activate pulse light notifications?

Open Power Toggles App;
Notifications > Customize > +Add Toggle > scroll down and select Pulse Light Notifications

This will add it to your Toggle bar that you now have in your pull down notifications shade.... you can simply click it on or off.

Indeed it is a faint light... certainly more noticeable at night. I'm used to Samsung's s3 which had a super bright one, but I'm glad to have a faint one over nothing as well.

I'm so happy that you posted this today, I got this phone March 31st, and never had a notification light. Good luck to you on your next quest!

hi guys.
I'm using both light flow and Nils launcher, for led and screen on notifications.. works well

It's definitely a software issue. If you're brave try a custom ROM. I recently put CM11 M9 on my M8 and the led is working fine now.
