Help Notification problem

This is really getting on my nerves now, PLEASE help me someone.
I'll start at the beginning...
My Hero used to have..
"A"= Ringtone
"B"= Text notification
"C"= Email notification

Had the fone like this for ages with no problems.
As a few of you may know, the market packed up over the weekend. In a different thread someone kindly went through the process of getting it working again.
It involved a factory reset etc... but ok, no REAL problem, just a pain.
Anyway, I did it, market works fine again, downloaded my apps again and set the fone up to how it was before.
I put "A" back as ringtone , "B" back as texts and "C" as emails.
If someone rings me I get "A"
If I get a text I get "B" playing BUT
if I receive an email I get nothing. No vibrate or tune at all.


I've deleted the old file and reinstalled "C", put it through Ringdroid and saved as "Default Notification"- exactly as I did it before but getting nothing.
Tried opening email > MENU> MORE> SETTINGS> NOTIFICATION SETTINGS and everything is ticked (notification, sound and vibrate all on).
I've also gone into SETTINGS> SOUND & DISPLAY> NOTIFICATION SOUND> selected "C" (it plays fine) then hit "OK"

I'm still getting nothing at all foe emails.
Even tried deleting the account and re- adding it.

Has anyone got an idea what I'm missing or what I can do to sort it please? I get a load of emails and they need answering pretty quickly or I can potentially lose a lot of money/ business and cause I'm getting no notifications I keep missing them.
Sorry it's a bit long winded but tried to think of everything.

It's not completely clear to me from what you said. When you went to the email app, then to Menu >> More >> Settings >> Notification Settings, did you set the sound in there? Or have you only ever selected the sound in other menus?

See, it's no good setting the default sound in android's own settings if the email app has been told to use a different sound. So the email app's own settings may have the notification tone as silent.
 
Just the normal one that comes on the homepage of the main screen. Just says "Mail" and shows an opened envelope.
Bog standard 2.1 rom. Never rooted or played with at all.

So if I hit Mail > Menu > More > Settings > Notification Settings I should be able to pick my notification tune?
Following that route the options I get after hitting Notification Settings are:-
Email Notifications (on or off)
Notification Sound (on or off)
Notification vibrate (on or off)

It allows me to either tick each option (on) or untick each one (off).

That's it though. No other options in there.
