Help notification ringtone wont change

I own the LG Optimus S. I've recently started to get annoyed with the default notification ringer which went off whenever I got a text. I went to change it, and no matter what ringer i selected, it would remain on the default one. The phone would show that it was changed, but it would still play the original one

Ya I downloaded ringbow and ringdroid. They show that the ringer is changed but it plays the original one

Try changing it in the Messaging application itself. Open Messaging, then hit the menu button, then settings.

That worked. Thank you!!! I don't know why it wouldn't work in the normal settings menu, but it worked through the messaging app so thanks again

Not sure why it won't change from the sound menu either, but opening messaging menu worked for me as well. Thank you for the thread. Helped me a great deal.

Same thing is happening to me with the email/gmail notifications. No matter how I change it, even through another app it defaults back to whatever my ringtone is. Only happeneing with email/gmail notifications. Called support and nothing they did could fix it either. Finally just turned off the email notifications b/c I was getting tired of not knowing whether it was an email or phone call. Very frustrating. Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

THANK YOU SandersJC64! That did the trick. Was very frustrating changing "notifications" in the sounds menu and having it do nothing for texts.
