Notification sounds for Messaging

Is it possible to assign unique notification sounds for contacts in the stock messaging app? Thanks!

Seems like such a primitive feature to not have, don't it?
Why do all notifications get lumped into the same sound? iOS owns this. Android needs to take a cue.

Select the contact you want to assign a unique sound, tap Edit, and scroll down to the "Message alert" field. There you can assign any of sound you want.

In Contacts, you can assign a unique message alert sound to each of your contacts.. But as you said, iOS owns this..

Now that's weird. I followed instructions and I don't see message alerts in the contact. It shows ringtone then goes right to notification LED.

I'm on Sprint. I hope this isn't another thing they decided to take out!
