Help Notification sounds interrupt music

Since I installed 2.1 (betas and now official) the notifications mute any music or podcast I am listening to through the headphone jack. If I'm using the internal speaker, the notification plays, but the music or podcast is still audible. Is everyone else having this happen, and if so, is there a workaround?

From scouring the web (which I should have done before posting) it seems that this is an Android 2.1 thing. One less than ideal solution is to put the phone in vibrate mode. I just wish it worked the way it did in 1.5.

Hysterical, I have a brand spanking new HTC Evo 3D running Android 2.3.3 stock, and it Still has this headphone jack bug, identical to this post. "Google hires only Top 5% of Programmers" - yeah, my Foot.
