notification sounds missing!

hiya! my first post here :)

i had this problem where the media scanner would keep scanning and scanning, it was so annoying! i couldn't use my camera, listen to music etc

as a result i just went on a deleting spree to clean up any unnecessary files. the media scanning process is back to normal now, but i've run into another

i seem to have deleted the default ringtones/notification sounds....:|

i'm not fussed about the ringtones as i never used them, but i would like the notification sounds back....is there any way i can?

thanks for any advice! :)

i did search for help and found this thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...ion-ring-tones-missing-after-upgrade-ics.html but the file is no longer available.

Three logical ways to get them back:

1. Get it downloaded from a site that's hosting the default sounds and notifications. I'm sure if you google there are some sites that host it.

2. (which isn't recommended) Factory reset your phone. The default files should return back by default.

3. (rather technical and doesn't work 80% of the time) Restore the files using a file undeleter/recoverer. (reason why it doesn't work is because the USB storage where these files are usually located are constantly being written to by system and other apps - so chances are, you might be able to restore the file, but it will be unusable/corrupted)

My suggestion: No.1

This hasn't been posted in the rooted section, but by virtue of the fact that you managed to delete files from /system, I assume you are rooted.

What ROM are you on? If you still have the zip file for it you can extract /system/media/audio and you will be good to go.

A factory reset won't make any difference by the way. This doesnt touch /system

thank you both for your help!

actually no i'm not rooted and, i did find some audio files but they were not the same ones i had on my phone

i am using the official vodafone ics rom(?) & was fully preparing my phone to reflash(?) until a chance restart where surely enough all the sounds were back!

it's so odd. i restarted the phone a few times and the problem didn't correct until now. i thought it was odd that i 'deleted' the sounds. anyway problem resolved, thanks again :)
