Help notification sounds with 2.2.1 update

I previously had my phone set to use different notification sounds for different things (emails, facebook, text messages) and this worked fine but now that I updated to 2.2.1 even when I set the notification sounds for these things it only uses the default notification sound for everything. I've tried setting them several times and turning the phone off and then on again but nothing has worked? anybody know how to fix this? also what is the best back up tool for backing up text messages etc for this phone? Is there one with a way to back up voicemails?

Haven't had a chance to try this yet but here's something I found on the subject:

Mount your SD Card to your PC
Create three new folders on the root of your SD card, ringtones, alarms, and notifications. Do not make these subfolders.
Add your sound clips to the respective newly created folders. (For example, My new mail sound from Outlook would go in the notifications folder.)
Unmount your SD card and you should be all set!
In older versions of android, a phone reboot is necessary, but I am sure now all you have todo is wait a second or two and try and set your newly added sounds.

I got the same prob. Does anyone know if this works? Not a huge issue, but I like having different tones and such for different notifications. Thanks folks!

I just moved the notification sounds and ringtones that I use regularly from the SD card to the system/media/audio/(appropriate sound type) folder on the phone's internal memory.
Reboot,and it works fine.
While I was at it, I deleted all of the annoying "stock" ringtones and notifications that I didn't like.
