Sorry to hear that. I'd ask you when did it stop showing... then what did you do different before that leading up to it? Did you add a new program. Any software conflict can be rectified with a cache clear and ultimately a hard reset.
It's possible that an update may have changed your settings--this routinely happens to me under certain circumstances. Try checking [in System Settings] a few apps to see if their notification settings have changed.
If that and the other suggestions in this thread don't help, please give us a little more information, such as which Android version you're using, whether the alerts ever worked correctly, and if the problem affects all apps or just certain ones.
