Help Notifications not working

My atrix is my first android phone, I have had iphones previously. So I am still learning. Basically, my notifications are not working for facebook, Yahoo IM, and textfree app. the only way i get notifications is if I go into the app. This really sucks for yahoo IM and textfree, because I count on these apps for txt messaging. any ides???

You will have to go into each app and select notifications. For e-mail and text messages, select the messaging app from the app drawer. Select menu (Four squares button) > messaging settings> select text messaging> Text messaging settings - select notifications. Use the back button when finished (Back arrow) and go back to the messaging settings. Select e-mail> e-mail settings, then notifications. I don't use facebook, so I can't help you there. Try opening the face book app and check the menu> settings> notification?
