Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

there is a way to reset the free trial to the city ID, just go into SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > MANAGE APPLICATIONS then click ALL at the top scroll down to cityID and open that and select clear data. that will reset the trial

That would get really annoying over time, but since we're on the topic, is there a free alternative to City ID? I thought it was kind of cool too while I had it

i agree it would get annoying after a wile, was just giving an alternative to not buying it if you really liked it, and yes i believe there is one called instant area code or something along those lines, worked about half the time for me tho. and im sure there is a few others as well, never really tried to find one.

I wish City ID would tell you the actual city the person is calling from rather than look up where the area code is registered to. My girlfriend calls me from NJ and it shows up MT still.

I will dismiss your claim in 5 seconds.

SetCPU is NOT a useful tool. It has been shown the 65nm snapdragon CPU in our Inc. becomes unstable at even 1.1ghz. This is because it uses the older 65nm fabrication instead of the newer 45nm that all other 1ghz smartphone CPUs use like the Droid X, Samsung galaxy S series, Droid 2, ect.

As I said before, the snapdragon CPU clock is dynamic and automatically adjusts clock speed based on CPU load. If you set the CPU clock low with SetCPU then you loose massive performance. It sucks. There is no reason to do it since as I said the CPU clock is already dynamic to save battery life.

Screen off profiles??? LOLZ, all you have to do to turn the screen off is press the button, or set the display to turn off after a certain time in display settings. Too funny!

I have to say it....Owned.

Alrighty.. well, now I know you are just trolling, and will leave the admin to (hopefully) take care of ya... the community needs much less of you....

Ok, i will happily shoot your smugness down with one massive thing:
- SetCPU. Only rooted phones can use this, and it provides VERY useful battery saving settings, or if you wish to overclock, a performance boost. The ability to set "screen off" profiles makes the entire rooting process worth it; the battery savings are amazing, and can negate the need to buy extended batteries (or make extended batteries more valuable).. and that translates to effort and money saved.

thank you, this is the exact reason why i am rooted. my phone has been on and used for 13 hours and im sitting at 80%. non rooted and i would be lucky to have any battery left

2n3904: go troll somewhere else you have no idea what your talking about

Just got the OTA message. Installing now.

Software number is now 3.26.605.1, Android version is still 2.2

I don't remember what the build number was, but i can give the new info if anyone wants to know.

Why is anyone waiting? Do the RUU, it's signed and legit as shit. I have the feeling a lot of you people who wait for the OTA are going to factory reset anyway...

Not needed. Mine is just as fast as it was before. Nothing acting up. Signal seems better, and it might just be me, but call quality was a lot better!

You see rooting offers nothing useful over the stock ROM. It only offers a less stable phone. There is no reason for rooting the Inc. Maybe if you want to feel "cool" then go ahead and do it but in reality there is no reason to.

Just curious, and not trying to start a thread war - why do you care? My phone is rooted but otherwise stock. I like being able to use setCPU to slow it down when the screen is off and stop apps I don't want from running. My phone is no less stable having done this than before. Just because you don't see value in screen shots, as example, others may. Likewise any of the things, little or not, that can't be done w/o root. Happy you're happy stock, happy I'm not.

No offense, but ppl need to stop asking about location. It makes zero difference

I'm not sure zero is correct. If someone in the same area gets the update, it makes you less likely to get it that same day. Yes, it is a statistically insignificant amount, but it is LESS likely you will get it since they will release it to only a small amount in each area per day.

In fact this logic may be flawed and even if it isn't the amount would be ridiculously insignificant but that's what you get at 1am on pain meds!

My OTA came. I have a stock rooted 2.2. Can I apply it? Will I lose root? Will I even be able to apply it if I'm rooted?

Time to show you the door (for the 2nd time).

..and now back to your normal scheduled programming.

I got the update and I have to say that the ONE bug that I am glad was fixed was the Gmail app bug where the reply bar did not stick to the top once you scroll past it in a long email. A very welcome fix. A few other things:

* V-Cast app store is every bit as bad as I thought. Its slow and clunky. The UI is dreadful - it reminds me of Blackberry OS. Another way for Verizon to undercut and undermine one of their more profitable and successful partners Google/Android.

* Adobe reader may be useful at some point but I'm concerned with more potential exploits with more Adobe integration.

* Slacker Radio - Thanks but no thanks. I already use Pandora and its fine for what I need.

* I hope Verizon is as quick to push out 2.3 as they were this garbage....

I too just received my update...(S. Carolina). I haven't downloaded it yet because I'm just not ready to look at VCast in my app list yet. AND no, I'm NOT rooted, because I don't trust my skill level to do that.
Thanks to all for posting what's in this update!!!

So it looks like if your rooted you have to manually install the update or unroot which will cause a full wipe. I think there are instructions in the root thread on how to get this update.

Mine was waiting for me this morning, in MA.

One notable item (or maybe it's not). I have wifi on when I am home, so the notification to the phone and the download occurred with the wifi on. I have wondered and asked about this in the past, and now know that wifi won't interfere with getting updates.

Question: I rooted my phone a while ago. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to play with root, so it's still on the stock ROM. I just got the OTA, is it safe to apply?

Thanks!

it will probably fail.

i am rooted and on stock and i manually updated (RUU). make sure you have S-OFF else you will lose root. this OTA comes with a new HBOOT and recovery, so I had to manually update the recovery after the update. see this thread
