Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

Pretty much what you do is you find the update file [im not sure if im allowed to post it here or not] put it on your SD card, not in a folder or anything, make sure to rename it update, not update.zip, that will make it update.zip.zip, you'll get an error.

This is WRONG. Depending on what filemanager you're using, you might need to rename it "update.zip", some you'll need to rename it "update" (ie it will add the .zip extension automatically). In both Windows Explorer (in Win 7) and Astro you'll need to rename it "update.zip".

In short, pay attention to what the filename was to start out with. If it had a .zip in it keep the .zip, if it didn't don't put one in.

And the sdcard method works fine (I used it on my phone).

very happy with the update, as it seems to have fixed the battery issues i had, namely, now when i plug it in in the car, it charges normally. also, when i have the google maps navigation on and plugged in, now it actually recharges the battery rather than continuing to drain. yay! HOWEVER, i can't tell if this is coincidence or what, but now i cannot seem to plug my phone into my computer and get to it as a disk drive. i plug in the usb, set it to a disk drive, and then i try to open my computer drives, and it just hangs until i unplug the phone. so that's fun.

I got the update notification but it wouldn't install(rooted just 2 hours prior). I waited a day and never got the message again so I said "F** it" and installed Sky Raider 3.3 and I am very happy. This rom is awesome! I've yet to try other roms but this one runs perfectly.

Got the update at 3:00am today!

Software Number 3.26.605.1 CL264707

For some reason all the widgets and icons on my home screens were doubled up on top of each other. I had to drag and Remove the first "layer" of icons and widgets. Very strange.

Thanks for the advice on duplicate icons and widgets after the maintenance update. I had no idea they were there and was getting frustrated with the phone reloading every time I went between screens or turned on after going into power save mode. Removing the extra "layer" of icons and widgets did the trick.

it wont matter what file manager your using, you download it on a pc/mac, then apply it to your SD. it should be in zip format already when you download, hence why you shouldnt need to rename it to a .zip, when its already a .zip

i did it the exact same way he did in his video, its the same principle.

Saturday morning seems to be a big day for updating. I got mine and also had the duplicate icon issue. No matter how big or small they were.

Literally JUST updated, all seems well so far... hope it stays this way, they owe me after the initial froyo update killed my incoming call speaker and forced me to get a refurb when my phone was less than 2 weeks old at the time...

I just got mine about 3 minutes ago. I have Skyraider 3.3.3. Ill probably hose myself.... whatever.

I got it the same time as you, also using Skyraider 3.3.3. Lol, I'm afraid of screwing up the phone installing it. Might just wait until it comes w/ a ROM

Just got mine an hour ago so far so good accept for that stupid freakin vcast app store the lame ass thing won't even open just gives me an error message, not that I would ever download anything from it. I just think verizon's silly for thinking they could ever compete with the android market. Battery issues do appear to have been fixed. I had it plugged in and was using it heavily while battery % was rising at a NORMAL rate

Same here. Thanks for more useless SH*T VZW!!!!! Nothing but error messages. Is the app effed up or are that many tween's downloading Justin Bieber's new ringtone. An app I would probably never use, but hell, at least let me check it out.

Well, I got the OTA about an hour and a half ago and installed it. The first thing I noticed was the charging was about 1000x faster. My phone was on the charger when I installed the OTA. When I hit install now, my battery widget was saying the battery was at 76%. When the OTA installed and my phone got done and finished booting about 10 minutes later, my widget was saying my battery was at 84%. I messed around with the phone for probably another 10 minutes after that and my battery was up to 94%.

So far the only issue I have noticed would be that the V-Cast App Store doesn't seen to be working. I open it, it says please wait, then there is a message the pops up that says "Error: Unable to complete request" and I can either retry, exit or go to catalog home. If I select retry or catalog home, the error message just comes right back up. But, this doesn't really matter to me if it works or not. Just thought it was interesting.

Just got the OTA as well, had the duplicate icons/widgets issue. The 4x3 agenda widget for the Jorte calendar app doesn't seem to work, but otherwise no other issues I've noticed. I wonder if the battery recharging so quickly (even with a possibly incorrect widget, I think the phone went from 30-85% in an hour) will adversely affect the life of the battery. I've always been under the impression that with anything rechargeable, longer charge time is usually better (for the life of the battery).

edit: I just tried to update the PRL and received an error message, anyone else with the same?

Just got the update this morning. Doing some backups now before applying the update. I was rooted with 2.1 but un-rooted for Froyo 2.2. I was waiting for this maintenance update before re-rooting. I need this update for the GPS battery drain when on DC charge. Hope this fixes that for sure. Will see how this goes. I appreciate all the info everyone has given so that I know what is going on with this update.

Just got it too - SoCal.

It's ridiculous that Verizon is trying to push their VCast Apps onto us when we have the Android Market with 100k+ apps with better prices.

Has anyone actually received this update yet?

Update was showing available on my phone this AM, 11/14/2010. I took it and let it update. Several reboots and a very LONG static Droid eyeball later and it was updated. First Sense screen took time also. There was a "demo" for typing that came up first after unlocking the screen, but I hit skip. So far so good.

3g bug seems to be fixed.
