Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

Do you think posting in bold font gets more attention?

I decided against installing the update and I just moved a 200MB folder form my computer to my phone and then back again. So maybe the update does cap data, but I have no way to test it.

You do understand that we're talking about data through the VZW network right ??
.
.... That DOES NOT include tethered file exchange or Bluetooth as they have nothing to do with Verizon's network data

BTW posting in bold is a Hell of a lot easier to read text IMO and is NOT the same intention as POSTING IN ALL CAPS .... OK?

Really, so bold affects seriousness

IMO its a Hell of a lot easier on the eyes to read a bolder text.

Oh well, we live in a more "sensitive" world now I guess.

Yes, I understand that. At first I thought maybe you were saying they capped all data transfers, that was why I tested through my WiFi connection. I just now downloaded last weeks episode of "two and a half men" through Verizon's network using TorrentDroid, 165MB, and it worked fine.

OK?

This happened to me twice. The first time was at least a week or so ago. I thought it wouldn't come back but this morning the phone was bothering me again...I gave in and tried to do the update and, again, it froze at the rebooting stage.

Is this because of the root?

Long time lurker here and rooted...anyways

I'm in the same boat. I consider myself a heavy user. I get the battery life I need from the bump charge before I leave for work in the morning to the time I get in bed at night, I'll be left with about 10% battery life. So about a solid 13 hrs of constant data with work emails/personal/texts/music/pandora and of course the occasional calls. Weekends I can usually get to bed with about 30-40%

I've gotten the notification once before-Note that I am rooted. I told it to install the OTA update and it began its countdown to reboot but stalled there. I put it into sleep mode then woke it up and it acted like the OTA prompt never existed. I've yet to get a notification to do the OTA update since. I've also checked for any software updates and says I have the latest.

I think I'll stick with what's working and leave the OTA update alone. There's a manual install method for those who are Rooted as well, but I think I'll forgo this Update.

Don't fix what's not broken!

I am not rooted but am still on 2.1. The random pop up's stopped asking me to update for about a month or two and started back up last week :(

Pretty hesitant still after reading all the problems. My phone works great...no lag on texts, internet etc, no battery problems...I'm 100% happy.

Question for those in the know though: if I did update to 2.2...will this new Nov update be 'bundled' into it or will I update to 2.2 and then wait for another update popup later?

I guess I will list my issues after the udate.

for one, i have been getting "android.process.acore" force close notifications.
I also see weather animations no matter where on the phone I am. The weather animations follow me everywhere and they can't be turned off.
Noticeably more lag in the system as well. apps can take a minute to open some times and when opening messaging the phone sometimes freezes and restarts.

I had no issues till this last update
I only get those issues when using Launcher Pro. When not using LP, those issues disappear.

I have posted this every time you have posted this.

I just now sent a 14MP video via email (K9) from my Incredible. I have also sent a 8MP one as well.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a MB size on sending video that you made with your phone to another person through texting?

You must not have the November OTA update then.

The source is straight from the horse's mouth, Verizon tech.

I think it only applies to the stock email app and the gmail app. I downloaded maildroid and large video files send without issue. The beauty of android is having choices.

Wow, did you read the post at all?

It has nothing to do with DOWNLOAD, it is the UPLOAD data through Verizon that is limited to 5Mb after the November OTA Update.
Is that clear ??

I have the November OTA, and I have zero issues with attachment sizes.

You also may wish to be a bit more clear on what you're ranting about. To say they placed a "5MB Cap on ALL outgoing data" is nowhere near the same as limiting an email attachment to 5MB. The way you state it, you make it sound as if everybody's limited to 5MB outgoing data per month.

As for your source, Point to something that can be looked up. Everybody who's owned a smartphone for any length of time knows that "Joe Representative from VZW tech support" rarely gets their facts straight when corresponding with them over the phone or email.

Well, hopefully you can see the correction to the update notes right on the VZW website soon. You are right about VZW reps the only thing that really set it apart was when she read me what was in her VZW release notes. I had no reason to doubt that especially because I had the restriction now that she described.

I'll try another email app if that is a simple fix to the problem.

Denver, quick question, are you using the stock email app ?

You're confused with email attachment sizes and upload capacity. You keep ranting about this, but you make it seem as if everybody's capped at 5MB of upload/outgoing data which is completely untrue.

Your incoming/outgoing data is only limited by your data plan. If you have unlimited, you have no limit regardless of incoming or outgoing. If you have a 1gig plan, you have 1gig regardless of incoming or outgoing. VZW doesn't care which direction it's going.

If you're going to rant, rant about the limit on email attachments. And even then, be careful to check your facts; because a lot of us with the November OTA aren't suffering from what you're stating.

I tried to email myself 6 pics.. at 8mp a pop they are over 1mb and it wouldnt let me send anything over 5mb.

Pissing me off =/

Glad I'm not alone !!

Thanks !!

I have a real problem with a carrier locking me out of a service I pay for with dirty little tricks like hiding it in a "update"..

Yet some people act like we shouldn't care about VZW's dirty little trick...aarrgghhh.

If this is true...wow.

It seems to only affect the HTC email or gmail app right now, the workaround is to use K9mail, droidmail, etc (neither of which I care for)

Still a real slimy move by VZW that killed the factory installed email program.

Good luck

What is your issue with K9?

I like everything about it.

Yeah, through text its a pretty small data size allowance..

That sucks. I mean it kind of defeats the purpose, if you ask me. I mean my brother was able to send me a video of his dog eating food off of a fork. But was much longer than the one I tried sending to him through text. How is this possible?
