Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

So, is the update good or bad?? Every other post has different opinions and i cant read this entire thread

Was going to make a new thread with a poll, but it would just be moved into this thread so there is no point in that

Bump for this ^

anyone notice that since the last update...if you plug phone in, and try to use it..it is EXTREMELY slow....immediately after unplug its back to normal

So, I called vzw tech support about my issues. There resolution was a reset. Eff that noise!

I did that with the previous update. Not a big deal then, and it did help with the issues, but are they gonna recomend this every single time there's an OTA update?

The great thing about these android phones are that they are sooo customizable, but its a pain in the butt getting having to redo everything I've finally set up to my liking whenever there's an update.

I am unrooted...and this thing wont install...I have had the pop up asking to install I click yes...it does the count down but never reboots, this has happened about 6 times. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had this problem before 2.2. i have yet to receive the November OTA so i dont know about it, but prior to 2.2 if the phone was plugged in it was extremely hard to use!

Yikes !!

Another major problem with the Nov. OTA update !

So one person in this thread reporting this problem constitutes a "major" problem with the Nov. update?

As far as the email cap is concerned I would say get used to it because if Verizon is putting it on one device the others will follow.

Do you offer a solution or are you just trying to deligitimize his problem?

I would also expect the possibility of VZW sneaking all kinds of limits on their other devices as they seem to be turning the focus on data usage and tiered pricing.

Exactly!
Been there, done that ... and it doesn't fix a thing from the poorly written Nov. OTA update software...however you will waste hours setting everything back up.(Yaay!)

**Replacement phone #2 is supposed to arrive tomorrow but I doubt it will work correctly....I hope it does though.
Anyone want to guess on how many replacement phones VZW will send me before one works right? LOL !!

I have held off on downloading this update. I come into this thread consistently to find out if the update is worth it.

My main gripe with this phone, and a major one at that, is the battery life. Its terrible. Coming from a Blackberry, I could go a whole weekend without it ever going near a charger. I'm lucky if I get a day on this DINC.

I keep reading about it charging faster, but what about the battery life? Are we seeing better/longer battery life?

Vanilla, I have a faster charge now but my battery life is noticeably shorter after the Nov OTA update....
I'm using the Seido 3500 battery now and it lasts the day6am-10pm), I can't imagine how short a stock 1300 would be after the update

Rsarno, I'm with you, I think a good poll would be useful

I am not trying to make light of his situation. I feel badly for him. But to keep blasting the update makes no sense. That is one person with a problem you cannot say that the update is flawed or else tons of people would be having that issue and that doesn't seem to be the case. TONS of people myself included have had no problems with the update. The email cap is not a bug so you can't include it.

The factory loaded email cap is definitely a software bug as it was caused by the update!!!!.....DUH!! ... as well as several other issues that have been caused on many peoples phones as a direct result of the updated software. It has already shown that it has compatibility issues with different build numbers, read up.
The Nov OTA has many problems, if you have been doing your reading, so you should feel very lucky if you really do have zero Issues after downloading that garbage!
Have a great night:D

How about we all just calm down. He was just saying that the email cap wasn't an accident (and you COMPLETELY agree about that. You have said MANY, MANY, MANY times that (I'm paraphrasing) "Those dirty VZW B#!@#$@s have snuck a cap on a factory loaded service"). He's right that lumping it in with the very few real bugs (ie ACCIDENTAL harm) that have been reported is misleading. I think everybody agrees there's an issue there, we just disagree about how important that is.

And just for the record, I have seen 4 reports of actual bugs (accidental). Which is on par, in not below, the normal failure rate for an OTA update. Glitches happen, they suck but they happen. And I'd love to provide constructive assistance to those people that ARE having bugs with the update. However, I'm having a little trouble finding those posts, with the 150 posts (roughly) you've made in the last days saying the exact same thing.

I say we all shake hands, agree that it's annoying, and move on.

There is a huge difference between recommending it for everyone after every update, and suggesting it to somebody reporting a Major issue post update.

Thank you that is exactly what I meant.

Ham radio operators know software and software development.

Don't you understand?

I have two Inc's on my plan and we have had zero issues with the latest OTA.

Some people are just habitual complainers...it makes them feel important and there's nothing we can do about it. The best bet is to just ignore them.

If you went through every post in this thread, counted how many people are screaming about how the OTA butchered their phone (excluding the vCast issue, that's just a matter of opinion); I bet you'd find that where the majority of the posts are gripes, the actual number of people who posted them can be counted on your fingers without reusing any fingers. And among those actual bugs/issues, half would probably be a result of something else that just happened to occur around the same time the OTA was installed but caused by something else (happens ALL the time).

And anybody who actually does have a legitimate gripe could probably do better for themselves if they would simply address their issues with VZW and/or HTC in a professional, non-confrontational manner. Addressing those issues on fansites like this one should provide information to others with similar questions without excessive use of caps, bolds, or exclamation points. Be instructive, constructive and provide input, don't throw tantrums.

But hey, that's just my humble opinion.

I went through this whole thread for you and compiled the issues.

5 users had an issue where the icons duplicated on top of each other
4 users had an issue with the sd card not being recognized either permanently or periodlically
4 users had issues with errors when hitting the homes screen (if I am reading correctly)

Past that 6 other users had complaints but they were one offs and no one else voiced that it happened to them as well. These include 3G signals not being as strong, battery dying quicker, keeps rebooting, reset to factory settings and 2 problems with apps not working properly.

Keeping in mind that Verizon can't take blame for apps not being compliant that totals 17 total complaints in this 11 page thread. Everyone else was fine with the update, happy with the update or had no opinion either way. It seems to have fixed a few bugs but offered no real upgrades of any kind.

I did not include people complaining about the issues with the Verizon store and I did not include complaints that were minor and resolved as they didn't seem to be caused by the update.

So 17 people out of 11 pages is not that bad and I would say go with it but it is totally up to you. The last 3 pages have been devoted to the email cap by one user specifically. :)

Are any of those duplicate users? ie, one user sharing each of those problems?

Ok.

So the consensus here Is "move along, nothing to see here, everyone's Incredible works perfect as it was before and after the November update"!?!?

Please tip the doorman on the way out folks!!

PS: don't Piss off the fanboys here or prepare to be excoriated!!

Well what I read is that some users are reporting issue's. Some being in the neighborhood of 17 people. So no, everyone's is NOT working perfectly but that some issues are to be expected. Software upgrades are not an exact science. So far the issues have been isolated to a select few, which in turn makes those NOT major issues.

At least that's what I got from his post.

BTW, we have well over 2000 incredible users on the forums so i believe that the issue's are not wide spread.

Yes that is my opinion. There are ALWAYS potential issues with upgrades but there is also so many variables. Did these people have similar apps that were the problem? Was it a specific brand or type of SD card? Did they start with a clean install of Froyo or was it an upgrade from 2.1. Were they having issues before?

My point is that a brand new phone with a clean install of Android can have issues so these small numbers do not point to the upgrade being an issue. The VAST majority has had no issues. If issues were widespread you would see tons of posts here and probably a story on engadget or an android blog.

I am not a fanboy I just call them like I see them.

Now that I have to backup and hard reset, how do I backup my photos and video if they aren't on the sd card? I can't dl any apps, remember. Is there another way of porting them from the internal to sd card? I don't want to have to dl them to my computer and then to my sd card.
