Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

Now that I have to backup and hard reset, how do I backup my photos and video if they aren't on the sd card? I can't dl any apps, remember. Is there another way of porting them from the internal to sd card? I don't want to have to dl them to my computer and then to my sd card.
While your plugged into computer via disk drive just go to where what you want to save is and copy/paste to sd card

Mine is doing the same thing since the update. And at times when I try to go back to the home screen I get a black screen and nothing will happen for a few minutes. Also noticed at times I can't do anything...meaning when I push on one of the icons on the screen or one of the bottom 4 soft keys nothing will happen...not even the short vibration indicating I pressed on one of them. And all of this started after the last OTA update.

We are all in the same VZW S***T Boat, up the stream without a paddle. Basically the same thing is happening with my DI since the last OTA update. Moving from screen to screen randomly soft-reboots the phone (HTC logo then loading...loading...). Sometimes just coming out of the phone lock or screen saver triggers this time wasting bug.

Obviously this bug is a direct result of VZW haste to sell us their apps.

Where is their hurry now to fix it ???

I went through this whole thread for you and compiled the issues.

5 users had an issue where the icons duplicated on top of each other
4 users had an issue with the sd card not being recognized either permanently or periodlically
4 users had issues with errors when hitting the homes screen (if I am reading correctly)

Past that 6 other users had complaints but they were one offs and no one else voiced that it happened to them as well. These include 3G signals not being as strong, battery dying quicker, keeps rebooting, reset to factory settings and 2 problems with apps not working properly.

Keeping in mind that Verizon can't take blame for apps not being compliant that totals 17 total complaints in this 11 page thread. Everyone else was fine with the update, happy with the update or had no opinion either way. It seems to have fixed a few bugs but offered no real upgrades of any kind.

I did not include people complaining about the issues with the Verizon store and I did not include complaints that were minor and resolved as they didn't seem to be caused by the update.

So 17 people out of 11 pages is not that bad and I would say go with it but it is totally up to you. The last 3 pages have been devoted to the email cap by one user specifically. :)

You really did that? I cant hit the "Thanks" button hard enough!

Sweet dude.

Actually we AREN'T all in the same boat. I know I for one have not been experiencing this. And since very few people have reported this, out of the thousands of users on this forum, I'm assuming it's not particularly widespread. Not to say that it's not a problem for you, but some users on here seem to have lost their sense of perspective, so I want to point that out.

On to your problem. What you're describing isn't a reboot at all, It's just Sense restarting. Probably because something is hogging resources. Maybe Sense, maybe something else. First, I'd check to see if your home icons were "doubled" (that is, the update made a second layer of all your icons on top of the first layer). If there is, delete the duplicates and it should help.

If that isn't the problem, download system panel, and find out if there is a app/service hogging CPU/RAM (the problem is caused by something using up RAM, but might easier to see CPU usage).

Obviously this bug is a direct result of VZW haste to sell us their apps.

It's isn't obvious at all. Unless you have signifigant experience as a Software Engineer testing/debugging faulty code, you're just assuming that the update caused it. It could have also been caused by a faulty app update that just happened around the same time as the OTA (it's PROBABLY the OTA, but you can't know for certain). And even if it was, how do you know it was caused by the Vcast store portion of the update and not the charging fix?

Ate you claiming to be a software engineer ?
Please clarify because unless you are, you don't know either, according to the post..

I didn't claim to know. I'm just pointing out that Correlation does not imply causation (ie just because 2 events occur at similar times does not mean they are related).

And yes, I actually do claim to be a Software Engineer (atleast on my Resume :) ). My background is Computational Math...

I believe what he is saying is that these anecdotal issues that are being blamed on the update may not be due to the update itself, but may be due to how a developer coded their application. That's just common sense.

Google/VZW can't test how their updates interact with every single app in the market and they can't be be held reponsible if an app they didn't write steps on something else.

-noticeably reduced battery life, more text/keyboard lag and more mandatory Verizon crap on the phone that I don't want ..
+ The only positive has been faster charging ....Yaaaaay.

Update: replacement Droid Incredible #2 arrived today and still has the same problem.
Verizon insisted it was a "known" issue but refused to email me any official correspondence regarding the HTC email attachment issue.

I was offered a replacement Samsung Fascinate as it doesn't have the issue. I was told that
HTC is working on a software patch but the release date is unknown. I told the VZW rep that
I would wait a little while longer and give them a chance to fix it before I accepted the Swap out
of the Incredible for a Fascinate.
Do you think that is fair?
I kinda like the Fascinate a little better but the Incredible was a GREAT phone up until this recent OTA Update.

What known issue are we talking about?

Take the Fascinate

Samsung Fascinate - Android Forums

(Does it stuck to edit a post only to find that two people quoted the original before the edit went through?)

Yeah, I didn't think it was widespread after being on here and thinking the original VZW rep got it wrong but 2 replacement phones have the same problem.
I'll still try to be fair and give it a couple weeks for a patch probably. I know I like the screen, camera and stock battery life better on the Fascinate but then again, I'm running the 3500 Seido on my Dinc.

PS>my wife Dinc won't download apps from the market after the update, just like other posters have had problems with...and it won't attach files over 5Mb on the factory email app ... same as mine.

I have two things since the OTA update:

1. The bluetooth icon on my widget doesn't light up showing that it is on. (No biggie)
2. My Hotmail account won't delete messages that have been deleted after refreshing. (This does kind of bother me because I have to either delete twice-from internet and my phone...or delete exclusively from the phone only.)

What the hell? I posted that response in another thread. How did it end up on this one?

Several threads about the recent OTA were merged together. It was the intention of staff to keep all the ota discussion together in one thread.
Some advice though; always try to quote the post you are replying to so that no matter what people will know what you are talking about. And i'm not implying this is/was your fault... just a suggestion to cut out some misunderstanding/confusion.

I'm assuming the attachment 'issue'. Which i thought we all conceded (including KB3MMX) was intentional on Big V's part. If it is something else then i apologize...

I assumed that was the issue as well but I figured that was intentional (unless Verizon said it wasn't) and even more than that....Verizon would exchange your phone for that? They admit it's a known issue but trade you for a phone with the same software? I have dealt with Verizon alot and they have never seemed eager to let you trade phones let alone twice and for a different brand as well. Something is just odd about the story. Which is what made me think it was possibly a different issue since threads have merged.

At this point it's hard telling...

Nah, you got it right, VZW is now saying the 5Mb limit on the factory email is NOT intentional but they won't give me any official statement on it in writing after repeated attempts.
Yes, I have been through 2 replacements this week and both Incredible phones have the
same issue. I have been on the phone so much with tech that VZW can't avoid the issue now and they were telling me its a known issue now... as a matter of fact, last night they said that the lines had been busy all night with Incredible user device issues, which is interesting.
Anyway, the word from VZW on getting offered a Fascinate is because we have 2 already and they don't have the email issue. I was offered a Fascinate for exchange but I'd have to buy the battery as its a refurbished unit.
I imagine I will be going the same route on my wife's Incredible as hers can't access the market any longer, in addition to the email problem and being plagued with FC's.
Does that clarify a little for the moment?

Had my phone since beginning of September. Updated about two weeks ago. Charges faster. Battery life about same or little better. No problems. Still very happy with it.

No update here. It keeps trying to but I am assuming that being rooted is keeping that from happening.
