I so I got nova but have gone back to touch wiz. I really liked nova but I found it annoying that when I got a notification it didn't show on the icon 😔

When you go into Nova settings do you see a category called unread counts? If you do tap on it and choose your unread count style for the icons.

He might have to install TeslaUnread for this option to be provided:

Once I installed this I had the option for badge reminders on certain apps.

You need nova prime that has notifications for emails missed calls and so on.

That's right. I also added the app Missed It, so that I can get unread counts on apps that don't typically have them, like Voicemail:
