Ok so I've been messing around with rooting and roms the past week as well as the leaked Froyo (tried befortoo when it was first leaked but went back to 2.1 cuz it was too laggy) to see if there were roms that made 2.2 better. Well Froyo was cool and definitley had its benefits as well as some of the roms I tried but I gotta say I completley understand why that is not the official release. Please samsung take your time and make a version of froyo as awesome as eclair is on this phone (at least with launcher pro anyway). IMO eclair with LP >>>>>>>>> froyo and any of the roms. Its just so much snappier and responsive. Any one agree or am an I idiot?
 
I completly agree with you. I did the same thing. Messed around with foryo and different roms, but i had to go back to 2.1. Ill just wait for the official release.
 
Im rockin LP and 2.1. I love it. The update yesterday brought new awesome transitions between homescreens and there is going to be another update next week for launcher pro plus that adds a gmail widget!
 
I just hope that once Froyo comes its as smooth as eclair already is. LPs widgets are top notch. I've tried other launchers and liked them and some like adwex are actually smoother but I always reinstall LP cuz of the damned useful freinds,bookmarks, and calendaer widgets. They are just really good. Can't wait for the gmail one too.
 
Don't think you're an idiot, but I don't agree. I'm running quantum 2.7 with LauncherPro and it's all smoother than anything I tried with 2.1. That's not saying I think the 28 version was ready for primetime, but I'm still happier on Quantum than I was on 2.1
 
I dont think that when i installed clockworkmod3 that it actually installed ext4 because when i did the startup into recovery mode for the first time afterwards it said so (that iit couldnt find ext4 lol)........maybe tahts why roms werent that good for me? I tried Bonsais newest and Viper Apocolapyse......If it dindt install i dont know why because I thought clockworkmod3 is supposed to come bundled with it?

Im about to try Quantum now because Im home from work, bored , and now addicted to customizing android since i understand it now , lol.

The CW3 redirector is still having the kinks worked out. If you boot with the 3-finger death grip, it will boot into CWM3 and recognize/mount all of your EXT4 stuff. You should give it another go, there are some really good EXT4-based ROMs to choose from.
 
Yea it did work because I was able to install and play with TrulyEpic and Quantum , Both of wich i liked but it appears one of them has screwed up my WiFi. It refuses to connect to my home modem and just gets stuck on obtaining IP address. Its not the modem because I hooked up a laptop using it earlier and my girls evo shift is able to connect and disconnect from it. I even went back to stock d18 and its still not working. The wierd thing too is that the wifi will connect to the neifghbors linksys (wich doesent require a wep) but all attempts to connect to the home modem are now broken and I have no idea why but it seems like it has to do with something Quantum did. If i can get this resolved id really like to use one of those roms , dammnit, lol.

EDIT : Nevermind , I think i fixed it. Wich is better Quantum or TrulyEpic?
 
I have Truly Epic and could not be happier. It is very responsive, smooth and after some tweeking all apps and functionality are solid. Much better than 2.1. You can customize it as you wish. You will probably get better quadrant scores with Quantum but that's not real world performance.
 
I like both quantum and truly epic the most out of all the roms I've tried now and would be content with one of them. Only problem is I don't like the browsers. The settings suck , including default ooms and such, none of them are right or as precise as the 2.1 stock browser and I find my self having to pinch zoom and or hold the phone closer cuz the text is smaller. Also I can't do without sprint navigation and samsungs memo pad app nd I don't understand how to use edify with any of these roms.

So I'm back to 2.1 once again , lol.

I have however replaced Launcher Pro. I had adwex downloaed and purchased and like it better than LP because I just can't doo without LPs widgets. Then I discovered an app/widget pack called colorize. Its just like LPs widgets. ADW plus Colorize= better than LP. Lol.
 
There are tons of browsers out there that are way better then the stock one, two of my favorite are xscope and miren..
 
I know both that i mentioned do. I have not any other browsers since going 2.2, been very happy with both for different reasons. Xscope is rock solid, not a ton of bells and whistles but enough to get the job done. Miren is nice because its the one that reminds me of chrome the most and copy and paste works great on it. I know im in the minority on this but i never did like either dolphin or skyfire. Just try the different ones out there, the only thing you will be out is your time.
