Motorola introduces Moto G with 4.5-inch 720p display, quad-core processor, $179 starting price | Android and Me

The Moto G will launch as early as this week in Brazil and parts of Europe. Its rollout will continue in the following weeks as it hits Latin America, Europe, parts of Asia and Canada, with launches in the US, India, the Middle East and other parts of Asia to follow in January 2014. The Moto G will come preloaded with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but Motorola says that it plans to update the G to Android 4.4 KitKat at the beginning of 2014.

I just don't like that it will come with only 1gb of ram. The other specs are not too bad.

You were one forum to far south.:D I moved this to the Moto G forum.

I think it is really well spec'd for the price BTW. Remember, that is an unsubsidized price.

I didn't know it was a topic thread for the G phone. It does have great specs for the price and off contract. It kinda makes me want to wait till it's release before getting another phone next month.

Decisions, decisions!

1GB of RAM could be fine as long as it gets Kit Kat. In Kit Kat they drastically reduced the memory usage of the Android OS itself. And even the Gnex, which ran pretty well had 1GB. Also just for reference an iPhone 5S has 1GB.

It is the lack of LTE that I imagine is more of a deal breaker. But that depends, HSPA (and similar) can be very, very fast. If the carrier you use it on is all about those types of 4G (3.5G?), then no LTE doesn't really matter.

The Moto G is quad-core and the Moto X is dual-core. What gives?

So KitKat should optimize the memory better. Sound interesting.

I won't try to give an EarlyMon description, but suffice it to say you shouldn't read much into dual core versus quad core.

Got mine as a 8GB, couldnt wait for the 16GB for the UK. The store lady told me they dont even know too much about the release of the 16GB, can expect in December not November, I will stay happy with my 8GB by trying to transfer my data to the bonus 50GB Google Drive my frequently.

yes it's in hand, very well built acturally. sold my Samsung to get this without paying any more penny but having a much better both looking and power phone.
The camera is not decent to be honest, the 8GB is a bit limited before the 16GB is available to buy. otherwise all fine for me and i am pretty happy with it.

One problem frustrating me is that i keep getting an error message when i try to install apks from internet. I posted it here in case anyone would give me a little help.
Anyone else gets 'There was a problem parsing the package'?

I'm not sure. I saw the post but really have no clue. I have read in the Moto X thread some apps was having problems, maybe because the phone is so new and the developers haven't had time to adjust their apps.

hope so. What i would try is to manage to get an official apk from play store and store it in my phone and then try to install it to see how it works. Then we can know if it is as you presumed.
Many thanks for your help!

There is a thread on Android Central where this is being discussed. An FDR (or multiple) have corrected for some, but not all.

We're looking at it at Moto so stay tuned. What software version are you using?

Thank MotModMan for the input. for that issue i actually opened another thread to discuss, ends up that Nicole S has kindly suggested something would make it work:

Pass-way solution credited to Nicole S
1. install google drive on the phone, for Moto G you dont have to do it as it's builtin.
2. upload your apks to the google, either through PC or mobile client.
3. install the apks from google drive.
4. enjoy!

It wasn't me, it was Benjaminv2. I do not have a Moto phone, maybe by the new year. :smokingsomb:

is there any way to change the text size on the messaging side of this phone my wife finds it too small to read without reading glasses?
Font size in settings seem to only increase system font size and not Text size?
Lez...

I'm not sure abut changing font sizes in the stock messaging app, but AFAIK you can in GoSMS and Handcent messaging.

Surprising that a stock android phone failed to implement changing the font size???
Thanks for the tip on Handcent tho that will do nicely

Yes it hqs a setting to change the font sizes among small, normal, big and huge.
Here is an example,
Normal size (by default)
