Now that AT&T has gobbled up T-Mobile, what are your future mobile carrier plans?

Out of curiosity, has anyone given any thought to what they will do now that T-mobile is on the verge of being devoured by AT&T?

I'm currently a Sprint customer, and the only carrier I would ever consider other than Sprint is T-Mobile, but if T-mobile is no more, I will stick with Sprint.

Anyone else given any thought as to what they will do, if anything?

Stick with T-Mobile and transition to AT&T?
Change to Sprint?
Change to Verizon?
Change to other carrier?

I'm gonna have to do some serious thinking about it...

Verizon - Their customer service makes me want to punch a baby, but they have good hardware.
AT&T - Their network sucks and they lock down their Android devices.
Sprint - My wife had them years ago and the coverage wasn't great plus they had some shady billing practices.
T-Mobile - Great plan prices, hardware I liked that hasn't been locked down, great coverage in my area, and a shining example of what customer service should be. R.I.P. :(

I still have a glimmer of hope that the deal won't be approved but I'm not holding my breath. The FCC would probably approve all current carriers merging leaving us with only one cell provider in the country called AT&VerSprinton. They'd be too busy trying to file an anti-trust lawsuit against Microsoft for including a clock in Windows 7 which is unfair to Casio or something...

Think about it, if the two companies are merging, that means that AT&T will own the bandwidth that T-Mo currently owns/pays for. The network for AT&T is about to get a huge bump in quality.

All that's left is pricing and customer service, which the latter leaves a lot to be desired.

I'll probably go with Verizon, unless service doesn't change and pricing is still good once the acquisition is completed.

If the deal goes through, it looks like I'll be porting my (2) person 700 minutes and unlimited data (no texting) AT&T plan, over to my T-Mobile plan, with unlimited minutes to US, unlimited minutes international, and unlimited data, since it will be "cheaper", despite the increased features/minutes.

I have a feeling once it does go.through all the plans will be shuffled some tmobile plans and ATT plan will be the new plan situation

If you haven't seen the news - there's a new rumor kicker. ATT will have to divest 40% of the acquisition. Trouble is - no one knows what 40%. Extra spectrum, extra customers, or combination of the two. Some are speculating that flexpay and Even More Plus customers will be shifted to Sprint.
I have EM+ Postpaid. I switched 4 lines when the contract ended. I prefer buying the phone I want. I liked the freedom.
Before I went to TM, I was with Verizon for 5 years. Worked up to 4 lines postpaid there, too. I'd probably stay GSM. I'm going to wait until the end, read up on everything and enjoy the service I have until it's over.

That's not news that's analysts speaking speculations. Everytime there is an acquisition of this nature analysts always spout a lot of crap. If you look at the law firms and financial firms involved in this acquisition I think ATT has it licked down

AT&T is great at offering flexible plan packages...in order to save $5/mo. and go from $15/mo. MediaNet data plan to the $10/mo. MediaNet data, one has to "add the $20/mo. text plan". Business practices like this should definitely be seen as a benefit for the consumer and the acquisition should be allowed with no hesitation.

Exactly...someone should check to see what that firm's portfolio looks like.

I have no complaints since they changed the plans my family plan went down 40 dollars and they added unlimited to any mobile which I lowered my minutes. My gf and sister have the 15 data plan instead of the 30 now that's 30 off and the anymobile let me lower my plan so another 10 savings.

I think the 40% is true. 40% of what is the speculation.

I really want to know what ATT does about non-att phones. I've rooted the SGS4G, and will get it unlocked. I've bought a couple of generic unlocked European phones, and liked the fact that there was no carrier's BS on them. The Galaxy 3 does have ATT bands, the SGS4G doesn't. But using the unlocked phones on TM gave me EDGE. I had both phones set to use wifi at home and didn't notice. I mostly use voice or text while out, unless I need a fast lookup. So not getting 3G from ATT won't bother me as long as they leave my phone alone. I'm won't cheat on whatever plan I get, so whatever I do with my phone over my wifi - is none of their business. It doesn't involve their airtime.

This is why I like TM. EM+ gave me the same plan I had as contracted postpaid, and I didn't have to pay to subsidize someone else's phone. Tech service of TM also dealt with a problem with the Galaxy 3, very satisfactorily, and that's not a TM phone!

Speaking of airtime - If you look at the coverage maps of all carriers, you see large gaps in the southwest. The Four Corners area, up to the center of the Colorado plateau is woefully lacking.

TM just put wifi calling on the newer phones. Similar to the old UMA, uses minutes, but also uses any wifi, not just a hot spot. Mountains and canyons are a pain for any carrier, since most are line of sight. So everyone adding wifi ability for any wifi would be great. You can find wifi in motels, bars, information centers, places where you normally don't get good reception. I was down to one bar and roaming in Monticello, UT, and this is within line of sight of the Abajos, and also on US 191.

This is needed out here.

Yeah tmobile wifi calling is pretty nice, I can definitely see why you would need it visiting Monticello. The last time I went down there i hardly had service with Tmobile.

And I definitely plan on switching to sprint. I will not tolerate at&ts crap with locking down phones.

Smartass in the terms of the deal to have a nexus phone the free mobile hotspot is part of it. Just like no carrier bloatware and or control over nexus line. Like nexus one on tmobile and ATT and nexus s on ATT. So it seems sprint has got Google to allow them to charge for that. So the gentleman above who stated erroneously that he was leaving because of att shit can now see the grass isn't always greener. Ok so KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT before you open your mouth OK whos Loling now

I understand that, but it's not like rooting wouldn't solve that problem. Lol. You just don't understand the fact the most people don't want a carrier that is willing to go far enough to disable sideloading apps. AT&T absolutely wants control over everything. Sure Sprint was able to take away free hotspot, but that's not limiting me from doing what i want to with my phone.

You keep sticking up for AT&T, but unlike you most people on Tmobile don't want to have to deal with their crap. I would much rather deal with unlimited data and faster speeds on Sprint before I would ever switch to AT&T.

Thats great, im happy for you. All I'm saying is the grass isnt greener, I've had all four major carriers and all this misdirected manufactured hate towards AT&T is laughable. It also makes me laugh that everyone is throwing out a million assumptions, while no one knows how and what the shake out will be exactly. AT&T is slowly loosing the reigns on android and I will tell you by the time this is final, they will have no restrictions but thats ok go to sprint. I mean they don't loose customers every quarter for a reason

Then why don't you list the policies? What does AT&T do if you have 2 phones and switch? I've got the SGS4G (unlocked and rooted) which I intend to keep. I also have a European unlocked Galaxy 3 (Apollo). What does AT&T do if you keep switching SIM?

I know the grass isn't greener. I'm staying with TMO until forced out. The unlocked and rooted phone make my choice even freer.

We don't know as of yet how it will exactly shake out its a year away. Also you won't be forced out of anything. You will have options and you can then choose the best for you. I'm gonna say in the coming months we will hear about the offers and plans. Once the hearings start

I absolutely refuse to switch to a CDMA carrier because I like being able to unlock and switch phones without having to ask the carrier for permission. I also like to travel so I need a GSM phone. Hopefully AT&T will allow me to grandfather in my Even More Plus plan. AT&T's 3G frequencies are more widely used throughout North and South America so it'll give me more options when it comes to buying unlocked phones.

T-Mobile's EM Plus plan + AT&T frequencies = WIN WIN for me. cheap plan and more hardware choices.

I plan to upgrade to the new G2x (assuming it does actually have the AT&T bands on it) before the takeover, so I'll get to keep my old rates AND get a great big screen with dual core processor :)

My biggest worry was that if I had to get a new phone to work with the ATT&T 3G and 4G, I'd be forced into a new contract to get the phone at a reasonable (discounted) price. I've read all the stuff at the ATT&T and T-Mo sites, and I didn't see anything that said you'd get the old rates if you needed to buy a discounted new phone (that would require a new contract). AT&T may still decide to do something like that to keep existing T-Mo customers happy and onboard, but being able to upgrade to a compatible phone before the acquisition just eliminates that worry for me. (Plus it gives me a "reason" to upgrade to the latest greatest--I can rationalize with the best of 'em)
