Now that we can use the LED..

Now that we can use the LED as a flashlite like the droid had from the begining, can devs now create apps to make it even more functional? I know before the 2.2 upgrade there were app but they required root. I'd like to see a strobe or a programable morse code....?? :o

Incredilight free from the market works perfect, but it requires root. Great free app.

You can already do Menu > Auto Flash or SOS.

Unless you are talking about a party strobe that flickers really quickly..

well i think nearly all flashlight apps work with FROYO and dont require root

That it didn't know, have you tried this?

Yes i did know that, and yes i was thinking about blinking very fast, maybe even like alternating leds to speed it up????

Am I missing something? Who still uses Morse code. I have a sneaking suspicion if the developers of Morse code had smartphones, Morse code would have never been developed at all.

Personally, I'm waiting for the smoke signal or telegraph app. Now THAT will be something great! ;)

before college i had morse code memorized and ive had to use it twice actually.

we were out in the ocean on our boat when our propeller came off, the coast guard was an hour or so out after a mayday call and since it was after sunset we spotted a boat, signaled sos and they responded and we signaled motor problem back to them and they came right away.

so there  your stupid smoke signal app wouldnt have worked in that scenario

jeesh, now I feel REALLY silly. :D

Ok ok ok,......totally not the point of this thread...but i think i just had an epiphany!!

Can we get an app that uses the flash and the camera to send and received morse code messages??????

haha. im a huge fan of preparing for apocalyptic scenarios (zombiepocalypse being my favorite) so i like to know all those primitive forms of communication.

binary is next on my list to learn, which will never happen, i wonder if theres a rosetta stone for that...

oh man, that would actually be really cool. Bringing morse code back!

Years ago, when I got my Ham license, I had to be able to send and receive 13 words a minute in Morse Code. That is no longer a requirement.

But I now use a "Morse code" ringtone for my alerts. LOL

Here it is:

If I was out in the ocean in the dark and some boat was flashing their lights at me, I'd figure they need help. And I don't know morse code lol.

Just sayin'.
