O2 users get further ICS update

ironass

Extreme Android User
O2 users in the UK have had an update to their ICS firmware.

Originally released in March on LP3, (Android 4.0.3), this new update takes it to LPD, (Android 4.0.3), with a host of improvements.

This is for CSC code O2U on the GT-i9100, Galaxy S2.

To obtain the update, connect to Kies.

For an explanation of CSC codes, see post #1, here.

Where did you find this out? I can't see it on SamKiesUpdates on twitter, and have just connected to Kies, which says I'm on the latest (March) version. I have the i9100, and have the O2U CSC code. I hope this doesn't mean I'm now having the same problem many others have faced with Kies not showing updates.

Has anybody else managed to get this update?

For those of you that cannot receive the latest firmware update for CSC code O2U via Kies, you can download it from SamMobile and flash it using Odin.

For details of this, see under, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!", in post #1, here.

This is the O2U, updated, LPD firmware which can be downloaded, here.

Thanks ironass, downloading now! Is there a change log for the latest update...do you know what the changes are? Thanks again.

Just out of interest, if anyone was having Bluetooth streaming problems to their car, did this update fix it at all? I might hold out for an update before flashing back to Gingerbread.

Have now completed the download and flash using Odin. No problems encountered and all existing settings/apps have remained following the flash. I've not spotted any differences on the phone yet compared to the original ICS firmware...not saying that there are not any mind.

It doesn't show up using CheckFus either so I'd be surprised if its an official O2 release.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums, InetUID! :)

Prepare to be surprised then... it is an official O2 release. ;)

Incidentally, I notice that Check Fus appear not have the latest Puerto Rican, ICS, release or the France, (Bouygues), ICS release either... not to mention the LPG release for Nordic Countries, (NEE), which came out last month and I am currently using and are all shown in my screenshot above.

not to mention the LPG release for Nordic Countries

Strange that because I downloaded NEE - LPG a few weeks ago a few days after it was released and did this via Checkfus. Just checked and it is still there :) and has worked sublimly since then - far better than the initial XEU Carphonewarehouse 4.0.3 version :) :) :)

Oooops... my bad as they say. I thought it strange when I looked for it, quickly, as I remembered you had used it. Need more coffee! :D

Only too pleased to help out :) :)

BTW maybe you could confirm something please?

Having replaced my initial upgraded firmware, which I installed using Kies and having now subsequently installed this Nordic one via Odin, am I right in saying that if there was a subsequent XEU/CPW ICS update released, then I will NOT see it via Kies?

Cheers

Spot on. If you root or change your firmware from the original, out-of-the-box, one, you will not be able to update via Kies or OTA.

Any theories as to why this "official" firmware isn't officially released yet via Kies? Is it just a new release that is currently only available in test mode or been leaked in advance, or one that has been abandoned by Samsung or O2 for some unknown reason? I would like to upgrade to this, but I'd like to stick to the official upgrade path for now, while my phone is still well within its warranty period.
