One overlooked feature in menu > settings > wireless and network > wifi settings is the continuation of the menu:
menu > settings > wireless and network > wifi settings > menu > advanced.
In "advanced" is a "wifi sleep policy" setting, the default being "when screen turns off." Changing that setting to "never" caused my "obtaining IP address" bug to stop, and the connection to remain through shut downs and reboots.
Give it a try.. some have other issues, including the IP logging problem. If you haven't yet, grab a terminal and, if rooted, use:
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
to have the old IP taken out of the picture, which for some Tabs solves the issue.
One other thing, if you have access to the router's configuration site/page, be sure to have the bandwidth setting at 20/40 rather than just the default of 20.
