Help Obtaining IP adress....

colabox

Lurker
Hey.

I have a problem with my htc desire.

Recently I tried to connect to my home router, but i couldn't connect.
It says "Obtaining ip adress..." in 10 seconds, then "Canceled" "Scanning" "Obtaining ip adress.." in a unlimited circle..

I thought it was my wireless network that caused the problem but no..

I tried several networks, open and secured. The same problem on every router found.

The wifi on the phone can't be damaged, because it can find all the networks in the area and everything, but no ip adress..

I tried to set up static ip, with DNS adress and everything. Then it worked for my home network, but i'm never using the wifi at home (got a computer :) that didn't help much.

Does anyone know what the problem is ? Would be greatful !

It could be a problem with the router, or it could be a problem with your phone settings. It's really impossible to tell from the information you gave. These types of issues typically need to be troubleshooted first hand.

As i said. I've tried to connect to several wifi's around the area, so i'm 100% sure that there is nothing wrong with the routers. Because it worked before on every router around here.

I don't know what more information i have to give.

Does someone know how to fix this shiet?

Have you tried disabling and re-enabling the WiFi on the phone ?

After that, have you tried a battery pull ?

If you're not getting a connection after that then can you connect another device (other phone, computer, whatever...)?

If you can and your phone still isn't working, what did you do between it working and it not?

SOLVED. Thanks to htc live help chat :)

Here's how i did it to those who have the same problem:

pull out the battery while the phone is on, leave the battery out for minimum 30 minutes. After that, everythings fine !

Thanks to those who tried to help !

To be honest, 30 mins is probably a tad excessive, you just need to make sure all charge on all components has had time to decay, a minute or two should be enough.

Basically though, a battery pull should be done when the phone is powered on and left out for a 'while'.

This ensures that the phone has absolutely no chance to save it's state when powered down.

Are you saying you did remove the battery and replace it (over a couple of minutes or so) and it didn't fix the problem ?

For me yanking the battery for a few seconds usually fixes most problems - I could probably get away with a good-old IT Crowd "switch it off and back on again" but once it's off it seems to be missing a trick not to pull the battery to discharge all the electronics. Waiting 30 mins seems overly stated - I doubt there's enough capacitance in the system to hold meaningful charge for 30 seconds never mind minutes. Your mileage may vary.

You're welcome by the way...

With laptops I advise to pull ac and battery or desktops to pull ac if I deem it necessary. Removing power clears RAM, including any corrupt entries. A battery pull will fix most things that a standard power cycle won't (warm reboot)
